Grealish has made his Everton debut |
Midfielder Jack Grealish - who was a high-profile signing for Manchester City - is facing the opportunity to restart his career at Everton. After a season in which he only played 715 minutes in the Premier League and was no longer in Pep Guardiola's plans, the 29-year-old star was forced to find a new destination in the hope of returning to the England team, especially as the 2026 World Cup approaches.
David Moyes believes he can rediscover the best version of Grealish, just as he helped revive Jesse Lingard when he brought him to West Ham on loan in 2021.
“We all know that there was a brilliant Grealish at Aston Villa, a Grealish in an England shirt and a Grealish under Pep - the best coach in the world . I respect Pep's decision, but my job is to find a way to exploit his potential to the fullest,” Moyes shared.
The Scottish coach also frankly cited Lingard as an example: “If I can help Jack succeed like Jesse did, that would be great. I don’t want to put more pressure on him, because he’s already been under a lot of pressure from his reputation and the transfer fee. But I believe Jack wants to prove some people wrong. And I look forward to seeing how he performs.”
According to Moyes, what convinced him most was Grealish's desire to return: "I believe Jack can bring spontaneity and creativity to Everton in attack. I clearly feel that he wants to get up after falling down, just like I have experienced in my career - needing resilience to fight back and show everyone what he is really capable of."
Everton expect Grealish to make his debut against Leeds on the morning of August 19, opening a new chapter in the English midfielder's revival journey.
