Eivind Helland has emerged as a target for Manchester United in the centre-back position. |
British media confirmed that the "Red Devils" sent scouts to watch the 20-year-old player in Brann's 3-1 victory over Viking Stavanger in early July. Just a week later, Bayern Munich also sent someone to Oslo to "watch" Helland in Brann's 0-2 loss to KFUM.
Helland is currently the captain of the Norwegian U21 team and was once described by Brann's head coach, Freyr Alexandersson, as "the Rodri of defence" thanks to his calm style, long passing skills and tactical thinking beyond his age.
Currently, coach Ruben Amorim is prioritizing adding personnel to the attack. However, Helland is still considered a long-term target, a potential replacement for Harry Maguire. The English midfielder only has 1 year left on his contract with MU.
Not only MU, Bayern Munich also needs to renew their defense. Center back Kim Min-jae may leave due to frequent injuries, while Hiroki Ito has not made his mark.
At an impressive 1.96m, Helland is an aerial beast in both penalty areas. He defends fiercely and powerfully, but is also confident when bringing the ball upfield. His ability to initiate attacks with long passes makes him stand out even more.
If he continues to maintain his form and develop in the right direction, Helland could become a great bargain in the transfer market, especially in the context of clubs like MU or Bayern being thirsty for quality personnel in defense.
