A safe summer for children to be happy, healthy, and grow up healthy.

Behind the laughter of children every summer lies the constant worry about drowning, injuries, and dangers from the online world. Therefore, creating safe playgrounds and equipping children with life skills is becoming an urgent requirement to ensure that summer is truly a meaningful time for them.

Worries when summer arrives

In reality, summer is the time when injuries among children tend to increase. Most worrying are drowning accidents, with numerous heartbreaking incidents occurring across the country when children go swimming in ponds, lakes, rivers, and streams without adult supervision. The majority of these children either don't know how to swim or lack the skills to handle dangerous situations in the water.

Besides drowning, many other accidents such as electric shock, burns, falls, or traffic accidents often occur when children are at home without adult supervision. In addition, the online environment also poses many risks, as many children spend most of their summer vacation on phones and video games without adequate family supervision.

Given this reality, ensuring children have a safe and healthy summer is becoming a necessity. Skills classes and talent-based activities not only provide children with beneficial playtime but also help reduce the risk of accidents and teach them how to respond to dangerous situations in life.

Learn chess
Martial arts, chess, basketball, painting... are some of the activities that many children enjoy during the summer.

Equip children with the skills to protect themselves.

To create a safe learning and training environment for young people during the summer, youth talent classes with many practical contents have been organized. Not only focusing on developing talents, these classes also aim to equip children with practical social skills and enhance their ability to protect themselves in daily life.

Classes are held in Xuan Huong ward - Da Lat, Nam Gia Nghia ward and Phu Thuy ward with a variety of content such as: swimming, martial arts, basketball, chess, painting, music, dancing, English, Korean, critical thinking math, G-robot programming... Among them, swimming classes are of particular interest to many parents because it is an important skill to help children avoid the risk of drowning.

According to many parents, the most important thing is not just that their children learn a new skill, but that they have a healthy environment to live in during the summer. By participating in group classes, children reduce their dependence on phones, have more opportunities to exercise, communicate, and develop social skills.

Ms. Nguyen Mai Phuong, a parent with a child studying in Phu Thuy ward, shared: “My husband and I both work all day, so we worry a lot during the summer when our child is home so much. Before, our child only played with phones and TV, but since participating in swimming and martial arts classes, he has become more active and learned many self-defense skills, so the family feels more at ease.”

Many schools in the province are also proactively organizing summer camps and extracurricular activities to equip students with essential skills such as: accident and injury prevention skills, escape skills in case of fire or explosion, and safe social media use and behavior skills. These practical and relatable lessons help children improve their ability to handle situations and protect themselves from daily life risks.

Creating enriching recreational activities for young people should be a priority every summer.

We need to work together.

To ensure children have a truly safe summer, the efforts of summer activity organizers alone are not enough. The family remains the closest and most influential source of support for children. Parents need to dedicate time to caring for and guiding their children in basic skills such as not swimming in rivers or streams unsupervised, not playing near dangerous areas, knowing how to call for help in case of an accident, and using the internet safely.

Along with families, local authorities, organizations, and schools also need to continue strengthening awareness campaigns, reviewing areas at risk of insecurity, and organizing more cultural, sports , and skills-building activities for children during the summer. When children learn and play in a safe and healthy environment, they will have better conditions for holistic development.

Summer will be truly meaningful when each child not only gets to play and explore but is also equipped with the skills to protect themselves. Because behind the safety of children today is not only the responsibility of the family but also the collective effort of the entire community.
