Floods cause damage in the Song Ma area

As of 2:00 p.m. on August 1, Son La province was affected by the tropical convergence zone, with moderate to very heavy rain, with average rainfall ranging from 56 to 134 mm. Accordingly, communes with heavy rainfall included: Sam Kha 134.4 mm, Pung Banh 97 mm; Muong Leo 65.9 mm... causing the Ma River water level to rise above alert level 3, causing damage in many areas.

Heavy rains, rising Ma River water, causing flooding and damage in many communes: Muong Lan, Song Ma, Pung Banh, Chieng So, Bo Sinh, Muong Lam, Sop Cop, Chieng Khoong... isolated many villages; 4 houses were swept away, collapsed, many houses were affected and many rice and crop areas were flooded and damaged. Electricity, communication and traffic systems were seriously disrupted, many roads were damaged.

The People's Committee of Son La province has issued a telegram on responding to floods and inundation in communes along the Ma River; announced a natural disaster emergency to respond to heavy rains, flash floods, landslides, and land subsidence in July and early August 2025 in the communes of Bo Sinh, Chieng So, Huoi Mot, Muong Lam, Nam Lau, Nam Ty, Song Ma, Muong Lan, Chieng Khoong, Chieng Khuong Sop Cop, Tan Yen, Mai Son, Son La province. At the same time, established a Front Command Center to respond to storms, floods, and inundation in Son La province.

Currently, the military, police and other forces of the province have approached the scene, established a forward command post in Song Ma commune to direct coordination and support in overcoming the consequences. The civil defense command of communes and local authorities are actively and urgently implementing measures to respond to and overcome the consequences of natural disasters; mobilizing local forces, helping affected households, and evacuating people and property to safety.

It is forecasted that from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on August 1, the water level at Xa La Hydrological Station is likely to reach 28,450 cm, 300 cm higher than the warning level 3. The Provincial Civil Defense Command has directed communes to organize on-duty shifts, monitor the weather, provide forecasts, warnings, and proactively deploy response measures and organize to overcome the consequences of floods.
