Buddha's Birthday and 3 times when releasing animals is absolutely forbidden.

Social Affairs - Releasing animals is an act of kindness, giving life to living creatures. During the Buddha's Birthday season, there are things that should not be done, and there are 3 times when releasing animals should absolutely be avoided.

3 times when you absolutely should not release animals into the wild.

It was 11 a.m. in April of the lunar calendar – but the end of May in the Gregorian calendar – and the temperature inside the house was already 39 degrees Celsius. On the shores of West Lake, a mother led her two young children to the lake to release fish as an act of merit. The two children happily carried two small bags of fish and stood close to the water's edge. The mother took each bag of fish from her children's hands and gently released the fish into the water...

Two elderly women sitting under a nearby tree, enjoying the cool breeze, shook their heads and said that releasing the fish in such a hot midday sun would hardly allow them to survive. Saving fish only to end up harming them—what kind of merit could that bring?

Sure enough, a few minutes later, some fish began to float sluggishly near the surface of the water...

Many people release animals with good intentions. However, due to a lack of understanding of their habitat, releasing them at the wrong time, or simply following a trend, these acts of kindness unintentionally cause further suffering to the creatures.

Releasing animals is an act of kindness, giving life to living beings, and fostering compassion and love. During the Buddha's Birthday season, people are encouraged to do good deeds, eat vegetarian food, chant scriptures, and release animals. However, no matter how auspicious the day, there are times when releasing animals should absolutely be avoided. The effectiveness of releasing animals isn't about the quantity released, but about whether the animals actually survive after being released.

1. Absolutely do not release animals between 12:00 PM and 2:00 PM.

Between 12 and 2 PM is a convenient time for many people to take a lunch break or to attend religious ceremonies and release animals into the wild. However, releasing animals during this time is absolutely forbidden because the sun is intense, the water surface is very hot, and the oxygen level in the water decreases – therefore, releasing animals at this time can easily cause fish and aquatic life to quickly become exhausted.

Many people mistakenly believe that simply releasing fish into water will ensure their survival. However, in reality, the sudden temperature change causes fish to go into shock almost immediately after being released. Some fish become lethargic and float on the surface of the water just minutes after being released because they cannot adapt to the hot environment. Therefore:

- Fish should not be left in plastic bags in the sun for too long;

- Don't wait too long in line before being released;

- Don't release animals at midday just because it's convenient;

It is a great pity if doing good causes suffering to living beings.

2. It is not good to release animals after 7 PM.

Many families, busy during the day, choose to release animals at night. However, this time poses many risks. Because it's dark, it's difficult to observe the water currents, identify safe areas, and easily release animals into polluted areas (drainage outlets, areas with chemicals, stagnant water, areas where people hunt...). Traveling near rivers and lakes, or deserted areas, at night is also unsafe for young children and the elderly.

Furthermore, in many places, as soon as people release fish, birds, or animals, others immediately start catching them again.

The Buddha's Birthday season is a time for peace. Therefore, don't try to go on an auspicious day at a time that endangers both people and animals being released.

3. During heavy rains, the water becomes very muddy.

Cool weather isn't always ideal for releasing fish. Many people think that rain makes the water cooler, making it easier for fish to survive. But that's not necessarily true. Heavy rain causes the water to become murky, the currents to surge, and the environment to change rapidly. Newly released fish are easily swept away, damaged, and their chances of survival are reduced – especially weak species that have been confined for a long time; they almost immediately become exhausted when encountering strong currents.

Therefore, if you notice the water turning unusually cloudy, the current being strong, or there being trash or polluting foam, you should change locations or postpone the animal release to another day.

Things you absolutely shouldn't do when releasing animals into the wild.

Do not release animals simply because it's trendy.

Some people release animals into the wild simply to film videos , livestream, and take photos to post on social media. But after the cameras are turned off, the plastic bags float all over the water's surface, ruining the beautiful meaning of this act of kindness.

In the past, people performed acts of charity without needing too many people to know, buying in large quantities, or placing orders for release in advance – a mistake many people make today. This is because ordering birds and fish before holidays leads to an increase in hunters gathering and keeping these creatures captive. Releasing animals is about saving them, but doing so inadvertently creates more demand for exploitation.

Do not release into the wrong habitat.

One of the most common mistakes when releasing animals is releasing freshwater fish into the sea, ornamental fish into rivers, or harmful invasive species into natural lakes... This is because many people think "releasing them is good." But releasing them into the wrong habitat can: cause the creatures to die quickly, disrupt the ecosystem, and harm other native species.

Therefore, before releasing animals, you should find out: what is a suitable habitat for the species you want to release? And you need to choose clean water and a safe area for the creatures to continue living.

Teach children compassion through the proper release of animals.

Many families take their children to release animals during the Buddha's Birthday season to teach them to love life, understand the value of compassion, and distinguish between good and bad environments.

But most importantly, we need to help children understand that releasing animals is not about "buying and then releasing," but about learning to protect life with knowledge and responsibility.

A child who sees their parents gently release a few healthy fish into clean water, and watches them splash and swim away, will learn a lesson and experience joy far deeper than from lengthy lectures.

"High-level animal release" sometimes doesn't require releasing birds or fish.

There's an old saying: "Saving a person's heart is also saving their life." Besides releasing birds, fish, and animals, there are many other good deeds that also have the meaning of relieving suffering, such as:

- To help patients have money to buy medicine and pay for treatment;

- Give hope to those who are desperate;

- Helping underprivileged children attend school;

- Rescuing abandoned dogs, cats, etc.

- Donating books for charitable purposes...

It is also considered a high-level form of animal release. Often, the merit gained lies in sincerity, not in the number of fish or creatures released.

The most beautiful aspect of the Buddha's Birthday celebration isn't the crowds or the grand ceremonies. Sometimes it's simply: a peaceful morning, a heart that truly cares for life, a stream of clean water, a few healthy creatures released back into nature... knowing for sure that they will continue to live.
