Proposed 7.2% increase in regional minimum wage meets expectations

On July 11, speaking to the press right after the second meeting of the National Wage Council in 2025, Mr. Ngo Duy Hieu, Vice President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, Vice President of the National Wage Council said that the proposed 7.2% increase in regional minimum wage from January 1, 2026 met the expectations of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor.

This increase meets the wishes of union members and workers nationwide, and also demonstrates the spirit of sharing the difficulties of enterprises. The proposed increase will improve the lives of workers in part, because in reality, enterprises themselves have generally higher wages than the minimum wage. This is a reference wage primarily for workers in the minimum wage group and other groups can also be referenced to build wages.

"This salary will also motivate employees to work with enthusiasm, to strive together to achieve the 8% growth target this year and from next year onwards, we can achieve the double-digit growth target," said Mr. Ngo Duy Hieu.

Mr. Ngo Duy Hieu also added that after the Government officially decides to increase the regional minimum wage in 2026, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor will organize the implementation and propagate for workers to agree and support this increase to continue to work with high productivity, good quality, and develop businesses together so that the whole country can enter a new era.
