On the night of September 1, the atmosphere on many streets of Hanoi became unusually bustling as a series of coffee shops opened all night, serving residents and tourists preparing for the 80th anniversary of National Day.
On Nguyen Dinh Thi Street (Tay Ho Ward), bright lights from coffee shops such as KatKat Coffee, Thoc Coffee, Moon Garden and many other stores create special highlights before the September 2nd parade.
Guests sat at tables, enjoying coffee, tea and light cakes, while their eyes were on the route being prepared for the parade.
"I chose this coffee shop because it is near the parade site, has comfortable seats, can charge my phone and use wifi. Staying up all night is not pleasant, but thinking about seeing tanks and armored vehicles passing through the streets with my own eyes, I think it is worth it," said a spectator from Ninh Binh .
Coffee shops have hired extra staff to serve customers all night long. Many owners also charge an additional fee of VND50,000 to VND70,000 per water bill to cover electricity and staff costs and ensure customers are served adequately.
According to a coffee shop owner in Tay Ho ward, everyone agrees with the surcharge for the September 2nd holiday. "Many customers said they are willing to pay more to have a safe and comfortable place to stay while waiting for the parade," said the coffee shop owner.
Not only adults, many families also bring their children to stay up all night, creating an atmosphere of both excitement and suspense. "I want to see tanks and planes flying by, I sit with my parents all night, very happy and excited."
Some customers choose the coffee shop as a “rest stop” so that the next morning they can quickly move to Thanh Nien Street, where tanks, artillery and armed forces are expected to pass through.
"I went to watch the rehearsal but didn't have time to choose a good spot. This time, I came early and stayed up all night at a coffee shop so that tomorrow morning I could move closer to the parade location, which is both convenient and safe," said Mr. Hoan, from Hai Phong .
The 80th National Day celebration, parade and march will be solemnly held at the historic Ba Dinh Square on the morning of September 2. The program begins at 6:30 with the torch relay, followed by the flag salute, introduction of delegates and speeches by Party and State leaders. From 7:45, the parade and marching groups will depart with the participation of armed forces, the masses and international guests.
The program will end with an art performance from 9:45 to 10:00. In addition to the ceremony, Hanoi will also organize fireworks displays on the evening of September 2 at 5 locations: Hoan Kiem Lake, West Lake, Thong Nhat Park, Van Quan Lake and My Dinh Stadium.
