US denies considering $30 billion deal with Iran

Reuters reported that on June 27, US President Donald Trump on the social network Truth Social denied media reports that his administration had discussed the possibility of supporting Iran to access up to 30 billion USD to build a nuclear program to produce energy for civilian purposes.

Earlier, CNN and NBC News cited sources saying that the Trump administration in recent days has considered possible economic incentives for Iran, in exchange for Tehran stopping uranium enrichment and bringing Tehran back to the nuclear negotiating table.

CNN quoted officials as saying that several proposals have been made and are only preliminary.

President Donald Trump has described the information as a “hoax,” calling it a ridiculous idea.

Since April, Iran and the United States have been holding indirect talks to seek a new diplomatic solution to Iran's nuclear program. While Tehran insists its program is for peaceful purposes, Washington insists it wants to ensure Iran cannot build nuclear weapons.
