Earlier, on May 16, Mr. Trump held a preliminary meeting with key officials at his golf course in Virginia. The meeting was attended by Vice President JD Vance, White House Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and CIA Director John Ratcliffe.
According to US officials, although President Donald Trump still hopes to reach an agreement to end the conflict, Iran's continued refusal to compromise on its nuclear program has forced Washington to put military options back on the table.
In an interview with Israel's Channel 12, Donald Trump said he was awaiting a new proposal from Tehran in the coming days. At the same time, he warned Iran that it would face more severe attacks if it did not meet US demands.
On the Iranian side, Tehran asserted that its armed forces were fully prepared to counter any potential new attack by the United States and Israel.
According to the Fars news agency, in response to Iran's actions, the US has issued a list of five conditions: Washington refuses to compensate for any damage caused by the hostilities; Tehran must hand over 400kg of highly enriched uranium to Washington; only one Iranian nuclear facility will be allowed to operate; the US will not return to Iran any of its frozen assets, not even 25%; and Tehran must cease military action in all areas to pave the way for dialogue.
