The US Navy's 5th Fleet said the troops arrived in the Red Sea aboard the USS Bataan and USS Carter Hall after transiting the Suez Canal. The deployment comes after the US said its forces thwarted an Iranian attempt to seize commercial oil tankers in international waters off the coast of Oman a few days ago. The troops will add significant capability and flexibility to the US Navy in deterring destabilizing activity and reducing tensions in the region, said 5th Fleet spokesman Tim Hawkins.
