US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin met with his South Korean counterpart Shin Won-sik in Seoul on Sunday (November 12), while Japanese Defense Minister Minoru Kihara joined the meeting online.

The ministers discussed strengthening three-way cooperation in the face of a "severe security environment," Kihara told reporters, adding that it was the first time the three ministers had held such a meeting.
US President Joe Biden agreed with South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida at a trilateral summit on August 18 that by the end of this year, the three countries will share real-time data on North Korean missiles.
In another development, General Charles Q Brown, chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, held talks with his South Korean counterpart in Seoul on Sunday, the South Korean military said.
In his first visit to South Korea since taking office in October, the top US general discussed North Korea's military activities, including missile launches, and reaffirmed the US commitment to defend South Korea.
