The US Department of Justice announced on November 20th that it has indicted and issued an arrest warrant for Indian billionaire Gautam Adani, Asia's second richest person, on charges related to a bribery conspiracy.
Why did the US issue an arrest warrant for the Indian billionaire?
New York City prosecutors say Adani and seven other senior business executives planned to bribe Indian government officials with more than $250 million to secure solar energy project contracts.
US authorities also accused the Indian billionaire of defrauding investors to raise capital. Reuters reported that a New York court judge issued arrest warrants for Gautam Adani and his nephew Sagar Adani on November 20. Adani Group, founded by Gautam Adani, claims the US allegations are unfounded and will pursue legal action.
