According to the Washington Post, on June 30, the Central Command (CENTCOM), the unit in charge of US military operations in the Middle East, said the US continued to withdraw the $320 million pier in the Gaza Strip due to concerns about rough seas and would likely not redeploy it to the region.
The pier has assisted in receiving more than 8,800 tons of goods for the Gaza Strip and distributing them to the UN warehouse in the area since May 17, of which more than 4,500 tons were transported in the past week.
The US pier project has been criticized for its high costs and failure to meet its schedule. A series of incidents have also occurred during the operation of the pier.
