Speaking on the sidelines of the Shangri-La Dialogue 2026 in Singapore on Saturday (May 30), US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth issued a stern warning, emphasizing that US forces are ready to resume combat operations if ordered, and that the existing arsenal is sufficient to do so.
"We are fully capable of resuming operations if necessary... Our forces are fully prepared to meet that need, both there and globally, so we are in a very good position," he said.

The Pentagon chief also dismissed concerns that a confrontation with Iran would undermine Washington's commitment to the Indo-Pacific region. According to him, the U.S. is boosting its defense production capabilities to significantly increase ammunition output and secure resources for military plans worldwide.
"We can do two things at once. We are aggressively boosting the defense industry to soon produce two, three, or four times the amount of ammunition to ensure all our operational plans around the world are met," he added.
While President Donald Trump has yet to make any announcement about whether a peace deal with Iran has been reached, the Secretary of War asserted that "the current situation is that any deal would be a good deal."
"This morning I spoke with President Trump. He wanted to emphasize that any agreement reached must be a good agreement for the United States and prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons," Hegseth said.
The US Secretary of War also delivered a strong message to Tehran.
"If Iran doesn't want to reach a major agreement guaranteeing it doesn't possess nuclear weapons, it could face the US military," he warned.
The White House remains silent on the decision.
Hours after President Donald Trump concluded a meeting in the Situation Room with his national security team regarding Iran, the White House remained silent on his decision.
"The meeting in the Situation Room lasted about two hours and has concluded. President Trump will only reach an agreement that benefits the United States and meets his red lines. Iran can never possess nuclear weapons," a White House official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said.
Earlier, Trump said the meeting was held to make a "final decision" regarding the negotiation process with Iran, while emphasizing several conditions Tehran needed to meet to reach an agreement to end the current confrontation.
