(CLO) Senior US and Ukrainian officials will meet in Saudi Arabia next week to discuss a ceasefire in the conflict with Russia.
US envoy to the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, confirmed the meeting will take place in Saudi Arabia, possibly in Riyadh or Jeddah, with the goal of establishing a framework for a peace agreement and an initial ceasefire.
The meeting aimed to find a peace agreement, with the participation of both sides. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that he hoped for a "meaningful meeting" and stressed that Ukraine was ready to take the necessary steps to achieve peace.
He stressed that a ceasefire must be the first step toward a comprehensive security agreement. According to sources, the meeting is scheduled for next Wednesday, after Zelenskyy meets with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

The meeting took place against the backdrop of significantly deteriorating relations between the US and Ukraine over the past week, with President Donald Trump and Mr. Zelenskyy publicly clashing in the Oval Office.
Tensions flared when he expressed concerns about the lack of military security guarantees, while the US argued that economic guarantees would be sufficient to deter Russia. Following the meeting, the US cut military aid and NATO intelligence channels to Ukraine, severely impacting Kyiv's fighting capabilities.
Zelenskyy wrote on social media that he is seeking a swift process toward peace and that Ukraine is preparing practical proposals. He said the immediate priorities are a ceasefire in the air and at sea, and ensuring the safety of civilian and maritime infrastructure in the Black Sea.
