The family of Mr. Ca Van Ngoc, Na Khua village, Nam Ty commune, has 3 hectares of longan growing area, all of which are the Thiet region longan variety. With over 10 years of experience in growing longan, and being diligent in learning and applying techniques in care, the family's longan garden has good quality, high yield, and an income of over 100 million VND/year.
Mr. Ngoc shared: My family started growing longan in 2015. Every year, during the longan harvest season, I hire households in the village to harvest with me, helping them earn more income. Along with that, I also provide technical guidance so that households can gain more experience in caring for longan, improving quality to ensure consumption in the market.
In Na Tong village these days, the longan gardens are always bustling with the laughter of people urgently harvesting the fruit. Visiting the longan garden of more than 2 hectares of Mr. Tong Van Quyet's family, which is planted and cared for according to VietGAP process, using organic fertilizers, and performing proper care techniques, this year's longan crop is estimated to yield over 20 tons.
Holding a bunch of longan laden with fruit in his hand, Mr. Quyet excitedly said: To achieve the results like today, I myself have worked hard to learn the techniques of growing and caring for longan in many localities, in order to improve the quality of the product. From there, I applied it to my family's longan care process. This year, the family plans to finish harvesting in August, the beautiful fruit will be sold to traders, and the less beautiful fruit will be used to make longan.
Currently, Nam Ty commune has 600 hectares of fruit trees of all kinds, the area under harvest is more than 470 hectares, the output is estimated at more than 3,900 tons. Of which, longan trees reach more than 350 hectares, accounting for 58.4% of the total fruit tree area, the expected output is about 1,740 tons in this year's crop. Currently, the market price of longan is from 10,000 - 12,000 VND/kg.
To support people in longan consumption, from the beginning of the year, the Commune People's Committee has proactively coordinated with functional agencies to provide market information to guide production organization and support longan consumption for people. At the same time, proactively connect with businesses, cooperatives, organizations and individuals consuming agricultural products. Focus on linking production with market demand, consuming agricultural products through businesses collecting, processing, consuming and exporting in and outside the commune; gradually expanding sustainable longan production chains.
Mr. Duong Hong Quang, Chairman of Nam Ty Commune People's Committee, said: This year, longan has a good harvest but the price is 2,000 VND/kg lower than last year. The commune is encouraging and creating conditions for organizations and individuals to enter the commune to consume longan products for the people. Strengthening links with export enterprises of the provinces and cities: Quang Ninh, Lang Son, Lao Cai, Hai Phong, Hanoi city to consume agricultural products, helping people increase their income.
As the main crop of the commune, longan not only brings significant income to farmers, but also contributes significantly to the socio-economic development goals of the locality. With the proactive and flexible attitude of the commune government in supporting production, along with the industrious and creative spirit of the people, it promises to bring bumper longan harvests, creating positive changes for rural mountainous areas with many difficulties such as Nam Ty.
