DTO - On June 3rd, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Doan Tan Buu chaired a conference summarizing 15 years of implementing the Law on Lawyers. Representatives from relevant departments and agencies, the Executive Board of the Bar Association, and lawyers currently working at law firms attended.

Over the past period, the practice of lawyers has undergone changes. Lawyers and law firms have complied well with the assignments of the Bar Association's Executive Board in participating in cases requested by prosecuting authorities; providing legal assistance, participating in legal consultations, disseminating legal education to the people, contributing to protecting the legitimate rights and interests of individuals and organizations.

The Provincial Bar Association effectively fulfills its self-governing role regarding law firms, always paying attention to the quality of trainee lawyers at these firms. In 2007, the Provincial Bar Association had 15 member lawyers; today it has 102 lawyers; the number of law firms has increased from 12 to 37.

Lawyers participate in providing feedback on organizational and association matters.

Free and legally mandated legal aid services are actively provided by law firms and lawyers, thereby helping those in need, such as the poor, revolutionary veterans, and victims of domestic violence, to have their legitimate rights protected. In addition, law firms also carry out social work to provide material support to the poor and those eligible for social welfare programs, and implement scholarship programs for poor and disadvantaged students.

Over the past 15 years, law firms in the province have handled over 25,500 legal service cases of various types, generating nearly 38 billion VND in revenue. Annually, the number of cases in which lawyers participate in litigation, provide legal advice, and offer other legal services has increased both in quantity and in the forms of their involvement. Lawyers' participation from the investigation stage to the trial stage has facilitated and improved the quality of defense, and they have demonstrated a high level of responsibility when assigned to participate…

In addition, the activities of the legal profession and legal practice organizations still have limitations such as: the percentage of lawyers participating in litigation in criminal cases and civil and business disputes is still low; the quality of legal practice sometimes does not meet practical requirements; the scale of legal practice organizations is still small and fragmented, lacking coordination…

Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Doan Tan Buu commended the achievements of the legal profession and requested the Department of Justice and the Executive Board of the Bar Association to strengthen regular and unscheduled inspections to promptly detect and handle violations in the practice of law; to effectively perform the role, functions, and tasks of state management of lawyers and the practice of law; and to continue to promote and improve the effectiveness of the legal profession, aiming to protect the legitimate rights and interests of individuals and organizations, contributing to the socio -economic development of the province.

Individuals with outstanding achievements in the implementation of the Law on Lawyers received commendations from the Provincial People's Committee.

On this occasion, organizations and individuals with outstanding achievements in implementing the Law on Lawyers were awarded certificates of commendation by the Provincial People's Committee.
