Students from Quang Cat Secondary School ( Thanh Hoa City) participate in cleaning the schoolyard.
To create a green, clean, beautiful, and safe school environment, Hoang Luu Primary School (Hoang Hoa district) has proactively equipped itself with safe supplies, planted trees in the schoolyard, built sanitary facilities that meet requirements, and regularly sprayed mosquito repellent throughout the school grounds. In particular, during the teaching and learning process at the school, every Friday afternoon, teachers and students work together to thoroughly clean the classrooms and schoolyard. Furthermore, to raise students' awareness and understanding of the role of the environment, trees, and the harmful effects of climate change on life, Hoang Luu Primary School also focuses on integrating environmental protection education content into appropriate lessons, subjects, extracurricular activities, morning assemblies, flag-raising ceremonies, etc. According to Ms. Le Thi Thuy, Deputy Principal of Hoang Luu Primary School: "Through these practical activities, students have gained a correct understanding of environmental protection. When their awareness is raised, they are not only active members in environmental protection at their school, but also advocates for environmental protection awareness and action among their friends and relatives. This is also the goal for the school to regularly equip students with knowledge and skills in environmental protection each school year."
At many other schools, such as Quang Xuong 2 High School and Quang Cat Junior High School (Thanh Hoa City), to raise awareness among teachers and students about environmental protection, at the beginning of each school year, schools develop plans and implement many meaningful and practical programs such as participating in the "Clean Up the World Campaign," "World Environment Day"; sweeping and cleaning school grounds and classrooms... Many schools in Hau Loc and Hoang Hoa districts and Thanh Hoa City also organize art competitions, writing essays on climate change and climate change adaptation, making recycled items from empty cans, cardboard, and old items...; incorporating environmental protection content into emulation movements, with summaries and awards. Some schools also organize students to write consumption diaries about plastic bags, hold quizzes, and draw pictures on the theme of climate change... aiming to create a positive effect in promoting and raising awareness about a green, clean, and beautiful environment among each student.
Since 2005, the Ministry of Education and Training has issued Directive No. 02/2005/CT-BGDĐT on “Strengthening environmental protection education.” In 2008, it further issued Directive No. 40/2008/CT-BGDĐT on launching the emulation movement “Building friendly schools and active students”... These are important legal bases for educational institutions to effectively implement the environmental protection education program over the years. Currently, this activity is being carried out flexibly and effectively by schools. According to the assessment of the Department of Education and Training, at the preschool level, schools implement environmental protection education through thematic play activities such as “Children getting acquainted with the surrounding environment”; at the primary school level, through subjects such as: Health education, exploring nature and society; At the lower and upper secondary levels, environmental protection education programs are integrated into many subjects, especially Geography, Biology, Civics, and Chemistry, and through experiential activities...
Furthermore, the sector has launched a movement to research and write innovative experience reports on environmental protection and combating plastic waste; and organized exhibitions of recycled products and items made from used plastic... Through these positive solutions and specific activities, the awareness of environmental protection among staff, teachers, and students has significantly improved. Students are equipped with basic knowledge about the role of the environment for humans and the impact of humans on the environment, and develop environmental protection skills. This makes a significant contribution to the national goal of environmental protection.
Given the unpredictable impacts of climate change and environmental pollution, educating students about environmental protection is one of the crucial solutions for protecting the environment in the future. If, from their very first days in school, students are aware of environmental protection and understand the responsibility and challenges that resources and the environment pose to their own future, they will surely become active advocates for their family and community about the role and significance of environmental protection activities.
