Agricultural extension work has recently been focused on and implemented quite effectively and synchronously, especially in building models and transferring scientific and technical advances in production. Thereby, contributing to improving economic efficiency and updating knowledge for farmers.

“Where there are farmers, there is agricultural extension”
In recent years, agricultural extension work has helped localities effectively build and implement projects and plans for production development; promote the application of scientific and technical advances and mechanization in production to improve productivity and quality; organize production linkages associated with the consumption of agricultural products, etc.
Agricultural extension activities contribute to shifting the province's agricultural economic structure towards developing commodity production, improving productivity, quality, and food safety to meet domestic and export demands; promoting the restructuring of the agricultural sector towards increasing added value and sustainable development, associated with building new rural areas; enhancing resilience to natural disasters and protecting the environment.
Implementing the motto "where there are farmers, there is agricultural extension", many demonstration and replication models have brought high economic efficiency to farmers. Specifically, the model of growing crops (corn, watermelon, chili, etc.) using organic microbial fertilizers, saving irrigation and linking to the consumption market; growing apples in greenhouses in an organic direction adapting to climate change and combining tourism; producing rice in an organic direction associated with linking to product consumption and supporting the application of synchronous mechanization in production. Model of breeding pigs; maintaining and developing free-range chicken breeds in the direction of biological safety; raising commercial eels according to the circular filtration process...
Along with that, the agricultural extension force strengthens training and information and propaganda to raise people's awareness to develop commodity agriculture towards quality, efficiency, and increased competitiveness. Focus on developing high-tech agriculture, ecological and organic agriculture, applying synchronous mechanization in some production areas. Urban agricultural extension with many effective programs, projects, and models, creates positive changes, changes people's habits from traditional production methods to commodity production, ensuring environmental hygiene and disease safety, and high sustainability.
Implementing the model of growing safe oyster mushrooms associated with consumption, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Phong (Long Chau ward) said: "Thanks to the technical guidance from agricultural extension officers, I have grown very effectively. Meeting the increasing demand for quality from consumers. The mushroom products produced are truly safe because the irrigation water conditions, mushroom growing house are clean, closed and do not use fertilizers or pesticides during the entire production process."
Meanwhile, implementing the Project of 1 million hectares of high-quality rice, recently, the community agricultural extension force has participated and coordinated to guide people to apply techniques such as cluster sowing/row sowing, sowing with drones, alternate wetting and drying (AWD), using organic and biological fertilizers, integrated pest management (IPM), integrated plant health management (IPHM), farming techniques according to VietGAP standards, organic or emission reduction processes, etc.
Participating in this project, Mr. Nguyen Van Trung (Phuoc Hao commune) said: “Thanks to the training, I have changed production techniques such as: reducing the amount of seeds sown, alternating wet and dry irrigation, using balanced fertilizers, managing straw and applying digital technology to production. From there, it helps reduce costs, improve the quality of rice grains, improve income, and protect the environment.”
Promoting sustainable agricultural development
The agricultural extension force has implemented many demonstration models and brought high economic efficiency to farmers. |
According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment, demonstration models applying scientific and technological advances contribute to reducing costs of fertilizers, pesticides, and labor to reduce product prices by 10-15%, increase productivity by 10-20%, and increase profits by 15-20% compared to actual production of local farmers.
Technology application models such as: Using automatic water-saving irrigation systems, mechanized equipment, increasing the use of organic fertilizers and biological products in production to reduce labor, adapt to climate change, help farmers reduce risks, solve the labor shortage for agricultural production, sustainable production, ensure profits and stable income. Farmers are also bold in changing production structure, expanding scale, applying high technology, producing in an organic direction, contributing positively to increasing the number of well-off and rich farming households, reducing the number of poor households.
According to Mr. Nguyen Chi Cuong - Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment, agricultural extension projects play an important role in improving productivity and quality of agricultural products, promoting sustainable agricultural development. At the same time, they are a condition to support people in the agricultural economy, helping people to improve production techniques, income and knowledge about producing clean agricultural products that are safe for both producers and consumers.
In the coming time, the agricultural sector will continue to implement agricultural extension programs and projects, develop science and technology development plans to improve the efficiency of transfer and application of scientific and technological advances in production, build high-tech agriculture, focus on key products; apply new scientific and technical advances in post-harvest preservation to increase the added value of agricultural products.
Strengthen agricultural extension activities to support agricultural vocational training, support businesses and farmers in applying scientific and technical advances in production, processing, preservation and consumption; continue to support businesses and production facilities in building brands, geographical indications of products, codes of growing and farming areas for key products; encourage the maintenance and expansion of production in the direction of organic and safety.
