Mr. Vu Minh Thinh (right), My Tan commune ( Nam Dinh city) shares flower growing experience with local youth. |
In 2016, after a long time of working in many different jobs, with encouragement from his family, Mr. Thinh decided to return to his hometown to start a business, focusing on developing the traditional profession. Every day, Mr. Thinh followed his father to the fields to work the land, learn how to care for, fertilize, detect pests, spray pesticides, and germinate... for various types of flowers. Flower growing is a special profession, not everyone can succeed if they do not study in depth the characteristics of each flower species as well as methods of care and pest control. While working, he also learned about scientific and technical knowledge, and gradually, he gained a lot of experience. Mr. Thinh said: “To have the property as it is today is a process of accumulating from experience to capital. From a family area of only 5 sao, I realized that the alluvial land in the Red River area has a lot of fallow land, so I boldly proposed and was facilitated by the local Party Committee and government to bid for nearly 1.5 hectares to grow flowers.”
Having the land fund, Mr. Thinh borrowed capital from friends and family, improved the soil quality and built suitable infrastructure to grow flowers. Grasping the needs of the market, he researched and planted many valuable flowers such as lilies, trumpet lilies, chrysanthemums, tuberoses, gladiolus... In addition, he also invested in purchasing many new equipment such as generators, sprayers, water pumps, mini plows, hundreds of light bulbs and some other means and tools... to be proactive in production and fertilization. His efforts were duly rewarded when he was one of the young people developing the flower growing profession with the highest economic efficiency in the commune. Over the years, Mr. Thinh has gained experience in the techniques of planting and caring for flowers, especially making flowers bloom on holidays and Tet is the most difficult step, requiring the grower to calculate carefully, just neglect the flowers will not bloom, or bloom stunted, ugly, lose value, especially lilies. In addition to careful care, Mr. Thinh also invested capital to build a cold storage with an area of over 40m2, both to preserve bulbs and preserve fresh flowers.
While working, Mr. Thinh also spends time researching, learning, gradually applying scientific and technical advances to production, participating in training courses, instructions, and exchanging experiences on growing flowers and ornamental plants organized by authorities at all levels, organizations, and unions. Up to now, with a total area of over 5,000m2, Mr. Thinh produces more than 7,000 flower plants of all kinds rotating according to the season, with a revenue of 700-800 million VND/year, creating jobs for 6 regular workers with an average salary of 7-8 million VND/month per person. Thanks to the good quality of flowers and reputable business, traders inside and outside the province come to his house to order more and more, at times there are not enough flowers to supply traders in districts in the province and neighboring provinces and cities such as: Hanoi, Vinh Phuc, Thanh Hoa, Hai Phong...
With increasingly rich production experience, Mr. Thinh becomes a companion, sharing experiences, exchanging knowledge, supporting local flower and ornamental plant households to increase income and improve their lives.
“Growing flowers is more economically efficient than growing rice, suitable for the land of my hometown. My family and many families in the commune have a stable income and their lives are increasingly improved thanks to growing flowers,” Mr. Thinh added. In addition, Mr. Thinh also cooperates with a number of small-scale producers in the commune, connects with customers inside and outside the province to purchase seeds and flowers for people, contributing to the consumption of large quantities of flower seeds and commercial flowers, solving employment, increasing income for production and business households, bringing local products to more customers.
With dynamism, daring to think and dare to do, Mr. Vu Minh Thinh has succeeded with the economic development model from flower growing, bringing high economic efficiency, contributing to the socio-economic development of the locality, promoting the role of youth in family and social economic development.
