According to information from the National Center for Meteorological and Hydrological Forecasting, from May 24th to the present, the midland and lowland areas of Northern Vietnam (including Hanoi ), and the central region from Thanh Hoa to Hue have experienced intense and exceptionally intense heatwaves.

The highest temperatures of the day reached 38-40 degrees Celsius, with some areas exceeding 40 degrees Celsius. Some locations broke May temperature records, such as Uong Bi station (Quang Ninh) on May 25th with a daily high of 38.0 degrees Celsius, surpassing the historical record of 37.5 degrees Celsius on May 16th, 2013; and Hiep Hoa station ( Bac Ninh ) with a daily high of 39.7 degrees Celsius, exceeding the historical record of 39 degrees Celsius on May 19th, 2019.
For example, at Bac Giang station, the highest temperature of the day was 39.4 degrees Celsius, exceeding the historical record of 39.1 degrees Celsius on May 21, 2020; at Bac Ninh station, the highest temperature of the day was 40.5 degrees Celsius, equal to the historical record of May 21, 2020; and at Hai Duong station ( Hai Phong ), the highest temperature of the day was 39.6 degrees Celsius, equal to the historical record of May 21, 2020.
Hanoi, the capital city, is one of the hotspots of this heatwave. Daily maximum temperatures frequently reach 39-40 degrees Celsius. According to data from the Ha Dong weather station, the highest temperature recorded in May was 41.3 degrees Celsius in 2019, while on May 26th it was 41.1 degrees Celsius.
Hanoi is one of the hotspots of heatwaves because, in addition to the impact of low-pressure systems and hot winds, the city is also affected by the urban heat island effect. With a high density of concrete, the temperature recorded in Hanoi is consistently 1-2 degrees Celsius higher than in neighboring areas.
The meteorological and hydrological agency forecasts, On May 28th, due to the influence of a weak cool air mass moving southward from mainland China, the hot low-pressure area in the West will weaken, and the heatwave in the North will be reduced to only the midland and lowland areas of Northern Vietnam.
The highest temperatures on May 28th will generally range from 35-37 degrees Celsius, with some areas exceeding 37 degrees Celsius; the lowest relative humidity will generally be between 50-55%. From May 29th, the widespread heatwave will end in Northern Vietnam (including Hanoi); while in Central Vietnam, the heatwave will gradually subside.
