The Russian military released a video of a group of Ukrainian armored vehicles participating in a counterattack on the southern Donetsk front, but being destroyed by artillery fire.
Russian military television on June 7 posted a video shot by an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) showing a series of Ukrainian light armored vehicles maneuvering in an open field on the southern Donetsk front, apparently launching a counterattack on Russian defense lines.
In the video, Ukrainian armored vehicles rush to the rescue of two vehicles that have been set on fire near a grove of trees. As the Ukrainian soldiers attempt to evacuate their comrades, two Russian shells land in the middle of the formation, destroying several armored vehicles that have been massed, causing the Ukrainian soldiers to rush into the trees for cover.
An armored vehicle at the rear of the formation quickly turned to the right, apparently trying to escape the battlefield. This vehicle also exploded shortly afterwards, possibly due to an anti-tank mine.

"The artillery units of the Eastern Army attacked the Western-made armored column. The enemy suffered heavy losses in personnel and equipment. More than 10 armored vehicles were destroyed along with their crews, many vehicles ran over mines and were destroyed while trying to escape the fire zone," the Russian Defense Ministry said.
The Ukrainian military has not commented on the information.
Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu announced on June 6 that his country had broken up Ukraine’s first three-day counteroffensive, which cost the enemy more than 3,700 soldiers and nearly 260 tanks and armored vehicles. The Russian military said the main Ukrainian offensive was on the southern Donetsk front, which includes Zaporizhzhia province and parts of Donetsk province.
The Ukrainian military has not released any information about the counterattack, but US and NATO defense officials believe Kiev has begun several probing attacks to find weak spots in the Russian defenses. A large-scale counterattack is likely to be launched when the Ukrainian military finds the weakest point in the defense line and concentrates its forces to break through.

Russia has been on the defensive for months, strengthening its defenses and preparing to respond to a large-scale counterattack by Ukraine. Kiev has announced that it will begin its counterattack in the near future, but has not set a specific time.
