Russia released video of artillery attack destroying a series of Ukrainian armored vehicles

VnExpressVnExpress08/06/2023

The Russian military posted a video of a group of Ukrainian armored vehicles participating in a counterattack on the southern Donetsk front, but being destroyed by artillery fire.

Russian military television on June 7 posted a video shot by an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) showing a series of Ukrainian light armored vehicles maneuvering in an open field on the southern Donetsk front, apparently launching a counterattack on Russian defense lines.

In the video, Ukrainian armored vehicles rush to the rescue of two vehicles that have been shot and burned near a grove of trees. As the Ukrainian soldiers try to evacuate their comrades, two Russian artillery shells fall in the middle of the formation, destroying several armored vehicles that were gathered, causing the Ukrainian soldiers to rush into the grove of trees to take cover.

An armored vehicle at the rear of the formation quickly turned to the right, apparently trying to escape the battlefield. This vehicle also exploded shortly afterward, possibly from an anti-tank mine.

"The Eastern Army's artillery units attacked a column of Western-made armored vehicles. The enemy suffered heavy losses in personnel and equipment. More than 10 armored vehicles were destroyed along with their crews, many of which ran into mines and were destroyed while trying to escape the fire zone," the Russian Defense Ministry said.

The Ukrainian military has not commented on the information.

Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu announced on June 6 that his country had broken the first three-day Ukrainian counteroffensive, which cost the enemy more than 3,700 soldiers and nearly 260 tanks and armored vehicles. The Russian military said that the main Ukrainian offensive was on the southern Donetsk front, including Zaporizhzhia province and part of Donetsk province.

The Ukrainian military has not released any information about the counterattack, but US and NATO defense officials believe Kiev has begun several probing attacks to find weak points in the Russian defense line. A large-scale counterattack is likely to be launched when the Ukrainian military finds the weakest point on this defense line and concentrates its forces to break through.

Russia has been on the defensive for months, strengthening its defenses and preparing to respond to a large-scale counter-offensive by Ukraine. Kiev has announced that it will begin its counter-offensive in the near future, but has not set a specific time.
