Fierce fighting is breaking out between Russia and Ukraine around Avdiivka (Illustration: Pravda).
"Over the past 24 hours, 101 clashes have broken out. In total, the enemy carried out 28 air strikes and 43 attacks with rocket launchers on our positions and residential areas," the statement said.
"Synkivka, Petropavlivka, Kupiansk and Kurylivka in Kharkov region and Novomykhailivka, Avdiivka, Novoukrainka in Donetsk region were hit by airstrikes. About 110 areas in Sumy, Kharkov, Lugansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhia, Dnipropetrovsk, Kherson and Mykolaiv were shelled," the statement added.
On the Lyman front in the eastern Donetsk region, the Ukrainian army repelled 24 attacks.
In Bakhmut, Russian forces unsuccessfully attacked the area near Ivanivske and Andriivka. Meanwhile, the Ukrainian side continued to attack south of Bakhmut, causing losses in both manpower and equipment for Russia.
In Avdiivka, Russian troops with air support are trying to encircle the city. Ukraine admits the situation in Avdiivka is difficult, but insists it is holding its ground.
In Marinka, Ukraine repelled 11 Russian attacks.
On the Zaporizhia front in southern Ukraine, Russia is trying to regain lost positions in the Robotyne and Verbove areas but is failing.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian forces continued to advance on the Melitopol front to wear down Russian forces across the entire front.
In Kherson, Ukrainian troops continue to control the positions they have regained on the east bank of the Dnieper River. After months of attempts to cross the river and make surprise attacks, Ukrainian troops recently landed on the Russian-controlled east bank of the Dnieper. If successful, Ukraine could open the way to the Crimean Peninsula. However, this goal is not easy.
According to the British Ministry of Defense 's intelligence agency, Russia has begun deploying its newly formed 104th Guards Airborne Division in Kherson.
The level of training of the 104th Division members appears to be inadequate and below the standards for what is considered Russia’s elite force. General Mikhail Teplinsky, who was appointed commander of the Dnieper group in October, will most likely lead the division.
The Kherson front in the south and Avdiivka in the east are arguably the hottest spots in the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. Military analysts say the conflict could last until next year, or even several years.
Speaking to the media earlier this week, Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov said there was no prospect of a ceasefire in Ukraine in 2024 despite reports that the US could push Kiev to the negotiating table with Moscow.
Mr. Ryabkov explained that this was because Kiev and the West had taken a completely unacceptable position for Moscow when considering Ukraine's "peace formula" as the basis for negotiations.
According to this formula, Ukraine demands that Russia withdraw all troops, restore the 1991 border to Ukraine and pay war reparations.
