Russia has expressed concern that Britain will deploy military infrastructure towards its border under the "100-year partnership" agreement between the country and Ukraine.

On January 16, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer was visiting Kiev and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and signed a 100-year partnership agreement, in which London will study options for building defense infrastructure, including military bases, logistics warehouses, and reserve military equipment storage facilities... in the Eastern European country.
At a press conference on January 17, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov affirmed that this agreement does not mean that Ukraine will become a member of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).
However, the Russian official made it clear: "Of course, given that Britain is a NATO country, London's deployment of military infrastructure towards our borders is certainly a rather worrying factor."
Meanwhile, according to Sputnik news agency, on January 18, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova affirmed that Moscow will resolutely prevent any attempts to claim sovereignty over the Sea of Azov.
In the "100-year partnership" agreement, Britain and Ukraine pledged to strengthen maritime cooperation in the Baltic Sea, Black Sea and Sea of Azov.
“Neither Ukraine nor the UK has any room for cooperation in the Sea of Azov,” Zakharova said at a press conference. “After the Donetsk People’s Republic, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions joined Russia in September 2022, the Sea of Azov became Russia’s internal sea.”
Any claim to these waters, she said, “is a gross interference in our country’s internal affairs and will be stopped.”
Russia held referendums and annexed the territories of Donetsk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia in eastern Ukraine, after conducting a special military operation and taking control of these areas. Kiev and its Western allies did not recognize this move.
