On October 1, on the occasion of Russian Army Day, Uralvagonzavod Corporation handed over a batch of upgraded BMPT "Terminator" combat support vehicles to the Russian Army. BMPT is a special armored fighting vehicle developed by the Russian Army to enhance the combat capabilities of tank units on various types of terrain.

According to Uralvagonzavod representatives, the upgraded BMPT will significantly enhance the power of armored and motorized infantry units, providing reliable protection for both tanks and infantry.

BMPT has proven its effectiveness in special operations and is currently in high demand in the Russian Army. Battlefield experience shows that these vehicles can be used both in combination with tanks and as independent combat units.

The BMPT combat support vehicle features a powerful firepower weapon system, capable of effectively dealing with combat drones and many other targets. The advanced fire control system, comprehensive protection and high mobility give the vehicle a significant advantage on the current battlefield and make the combat vehicle irreplaceable for the Russian ground forces.

“The performance of the BMPT in real combat conditions has exceeded the expectations of our designers. Like all Uralvagonzavod weapons, the BMPT can be further upgraded, opening up horizons for further development and improvement,” commented Uralvagonzavod CEO Alexander Potapov.

Currently, Uralvagonzavod is carrying out a large order from the Ministry of Defense for the BMPT because of the vehicle's need in Special Operations. Mr. Potapov also said that in the past, tanks were always considered the main crushing power of the army. Now the BMPT is emerging as a new candidate.

Before the task, the designers of Uralvagonzavod constantly improved the characteristics of the BMPT based on combat experience. This primarily concerned the improvement of protection. The BMPT versions of 2025 differ from those supplied to the Russian Army before the special military operation. Explosive reactive armor (ERA) was enhanced and additional side protection was provided.

In particular, the new BMPT is equipped with an anti-drone net similar to that on the T-90M 'Proryv' and T-72B3M tanks, to neutralize attacks from suicide drones. In addition, the vehicle is also integrated with an electronic warfare system capable of jamming drone and guided missile signals, improving its survivability in the modern electronic environment.

In terms of weapons systems, the BMPT is equipped with two 30mm 2A42 automatic cannons, which can fire 600-800 rounds/minute, ideal for destroying infantry and light vehicles. Two launchers carry four 9M120 Ataka anti-tank missiles, with a range of up to 6km, equipped with tandem warheads to penetrate explosive reactive armor.

To combat infantry and close-range targets, the BMPT uses two 30mm AG-17D grenade launchers and a coaxial 7.62mm PKTM machine gun. The high elevation angle of the automatic gun ensures easy destruction of targets at high altitudes, and destruction of low-flying aerial targets such as UAVs, helicopters or aircraft.

Combined with the above weapon system is a multi-purpose fire control system that allows the BMPT to simultaneously engage multiple targets thanks to an advanced digital fire control system. This system allows the vehicle to hit up to 3 separate targets at different distances and angles, day and night, while on the move.

It is unclear exactly how many BMPTs Uralvagonzavod has produced for the Russian Army, but estimates range from a few dozen to several hundred. The vehicle has also been exported to Algeria and Kazakhstan.
