In particular, the rate of rural households using hygienic water reached 100%, of which clean water reached 94.99%, showing a clear improvement in the living conditions of rural people. The province has been recognized by the Prime Minister for completing the task of building new rural areas by 2024, a proud achievement.

Regarding production, the rice sowing area reached 48.34% of the plan, while vegetables and fruit trees all had growth in area and output compared to the same period last year. Livestock and poultry farming also grew impressively, especially the pig herd increased by 17.6%. Aquaculture maintained stable growth, with the farming area reaching 83.03% of the plan and farming and exploitation output increasing by 4.9%.

Many areas of crops and livestock are certified for production according to GAP, organic, ASC, GlobalGAP, BAP, VietGAP standards, contributing to enhancing the value and reputation of products.

The province has promoted the application of high technology and digital transformation in agriculture by strengthening the smart pest monitoring system, applying technology in livestock farming, managing growing area codes and implementing related science and technology programs. Industry data systems such as software connecting agriculture, farmers, rural areas and the VDAPES digital agriculture platform are being operated effectively.

Farmers harvest rice

Disaster prevention and control, especially saltwater intrusion, has been proactively implemented earlier and more effectively than last year, ensuring water sources for production and daily life. Anti-IUU fishing has been strictly implemented, 100% of fishing vessels entering and leaving ports and sea registration records are made on the eCDT system. The rate of fishing vessels installing journey monitoring devices has reached 100%.

Besides the bright spots, Dong Thap's agricultural sector still faces many challenges. The prices of rice and some key fruits are lower than the same period last year, affecting farmers' income. Organizing production linkages and controlling product quality still face difficulties due to small-scale farming practices, lack of synchronization in production processes and inconsistent quality; data collection and reporting on the digital agricultural platform are not complete and timely. The work of classifying household waste at source still faces difficulties due to unsynchronized infrastructure and solutions, along with people's habits...

Dong Thap always focuses on promoting trade and connecting supply and demand.

Creating breakthrough momentum for the agricultural industry

To achieve important targets in the last 6 months of 2025, Dong Thap Department of Agriculture and Environment has set out many key tasks and solutions, focusing on key areas to promote sustainable development for the province's agricultural sector.

The province focuses on organizing flexible production of the 2025 autumn-winter rice crop in eligible areas, increasing output. In particular, a pilot model of high-quality, low-emission rice cultivation will be piloted in My Thanh commune (50 hectares), associated with the goal of green growth. Plant pest management is focused on through concentrated sowing to avoid planthoppers, recommending the use of certified rice varieties and applying high technology and mechanization according to the model of "1 must, 5 reductions". For color crops, people are advised to proactively respond to adverse weather. Fruit trees are renovated, applying crop spreading techniques, increasing organic fertilizer application and strictly managing growing area codes and packaging facilities, while overcoming the situation of cadmium contamination on durian.

The agricultural sector will continue to support farmers in converting to small-scale farms, in compliance with the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Law. Providing free vaccines and disease prevention education for livestock is a priority. When an epidemic occurs, drastic measures must be taken to contain the epidemic in a timely manner.

The province encourages the development of circular economic models and natural economy in agricultural production.

Dong Thap will continue to build and replicate large-scale concentrated production models, aiming to reduce costs, apply smart technology, trace origin and develop value chains. Production models according to GAP standards, organic production on key crops and livestock will be deployed and replicated. In particular, the province encourages the development of circular economic models and natural economy in agricultural cultivation. In order to grasp and promptly remove difficulties, contact activities with purchasing, processing enterprises and agricultural producers are maintained, along with the assignment of specialized staff to support localities in the organization of production, harvesting, transportation and distribution of agricultural products.

In addition, the province also promotes trade and connects supply and demand. Continues to manage codes for growing areas and packaging facilities. Supports the implementation of the OCOP Program, completes the profile of OCOP products to achieve stars, especially products with the potential to achieve 5 stars.

According to the leader of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Dong Thap, in order for the province's agricultural sector to achieve its set targets, from now until the end of 2025, there needs to be close coordination between departments, branches, localities and especially the consensus of people and businesses. Focusing on safe production, high-tech application, value chain development, resource management and environmental protection, along with perfecting support policies will be the key for Dong Thap's agricultural sector to not only achieve its immediate goals but also aim for sustainable development in the future, contributing to improving people's quality of life and ensuring social security.
