These are outstanding achievements of the capital's health sector to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the successful August Revolution and National Day September 2 (September 2, 1945 - September 2, 2025).

Deputy Director in charge of the Hanoi Department of Health, Dr. Nguyen Dinh Hung, said that during his lifetime, Uncle Ho once affirmed: "Humans are the most valuable assets of society, health is the most valuable assets of humans". That is the guiding principle for all activities of the Hanoi health sector staff to constantly strive, innovate, and devote themselves to the cause of caring for, protecting, and improving people's health. This is the top political task, the noble mission assigned by the Party, the State, and the people of the capital.

Under the leadership of the Party, directly by the Hanoi Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, and the professional guidance of the Ministry of Health, in the period of 2020-2025, the capital's health sector has successfully completed the targets and tasks set by the 17th Hanoi Party Congress. In particular, it has completed and exceeded 9/26 targets in Program No. 08-CTr/TU of the City Party Committee on "Developing the social security system, improving social welfare and quality of life of the people of the capital in the period of 2021-2025".

Specifically: the health sector achieved 37.4 hospital beds/10,000 people (the initial target was from 30 to 35 beds); achieved 16.3 doctors/10,000 people (the initial target was 15); maintained 100% of communes and wards meeting national criteria on commune health; 100% of people had their health managed; 85% of pregnant women were screened for the four most common congenital diseases before birth; 90% of newborns were screened for the five most common congenital diseases; average life expectancy reached: 76.5 years; replacement fertility rate: 2.1 children/woman of childbearing age; reduced the rate of malnourished children under five years old compared to the previous year by 0.1%/year.

Regarding the medical examination and treatment system, the entire city of Hanoi currently has 9 first-class hospitals; 32 second-class hospitals; one third-class hospital; five specialized centers; 11 social assistance facilities and 126 commune and ward health stations and stations. In addition, there are more than 15,000 private health facilities in the area. Statistics show that every year, the capital's health system examines and treats nearly 10 million people; performs surgery on nearly 300,000 patients, including saving many cases of serious illness, contributing to bringing joy and happiness to the people.

During this period, the capital's health sector has also continuously cooperated with countries around the world in transferring technology and techniques in the health sector, such as: Hanoi Department of Health and the Paris Public Hospital Authority (France) signed a cooperation agreement for the period 2024-2029; Department of Health and Seegene Health Foundation (Korea) signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation. Proactively cooperate with potential partners such as the US, France, Germany, Russia, Japan, China, Korea, Singapore, etc., and international health organizations; leading medical technology corporations in the world to access advanced medical technologies and techniques to gradually improve and enhance diagnostic and treatment capacity for local people and people in neighboring provinces.

Notably, the Hanoi health sector has built a number of specialized, high-quality hospitals such as: Hanoi Heart Hospital; Hanoi Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital; Hanoi Oncology Hospital... These units have deployed and performed particularly difficult specialized techniques in the fields of cardiology, reproduction, and cancer treatment.

Specifically, Hanoi Heart Hospital performs an average of more than 2,300 heart surgeries each year, and performs nearly 13,000 vascular interventions (including young patients weighing 0.9 kg). Hanoi Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital has pioneered fetal medicine and fetal intervention techniques in Vietnam...

Along with medical examination and treatment, with the motto "Prevention is better than cure", preventive medicine work has always been invested in and promoted by the health sector. Specifically, the Hanoi Center for Disease Control (CDC) together with the grassroots health network has promptly and effectively controlled infectious diseases, especially dangerous diseases such as SARS, A/H5N1, Covid-19, dengue fever, measles, hand, foot and mouth disease, etc.; emerging infectious diseases and non-communicable diseases are effectively managed in the community.

Dr. Nguyen Dinh Hung added that in order to continue promoting the achievements that have been made, especially striving to be the leading flag of the whole country in improving the quality of services, towards building a modern and integrated health system. In the coming period, the Hanoi health sector will continue to build an advanced and modern health system suitable to the structure and size of the population; synchronously deploy solutions in medical examination and treatment; further improve the capacity of the preventive health system, primary health care, family medicine; develop the public and non-public emergency care system.

On the other hand, the capital's health sector has strengthened the training of high-quality human resources, with the goal that the capital's medical staff must not only be professionally skilled and have high technical skills, but also have excellent medical ethics and be imbued with the spirit of "A good doctor is like a mother". This is the decisive factor for the Hanoi health sector to always maintain the trust of the people.

Continue to apply advanced and modern technology in medical examination and treatment; promote the comprehensive digital transformation process, implement electronic health records, towards smart healthcare. Strengthen international cooperation in the fields of training and technology transfer to build a team of leading and specialized doctors in fields such as cancer, organ transplantation, plastic surgery, etc.
