According to MHI, the launch is scheduled to take place at the Tanegashima Space Center on Tanegashima Island, Kagoshima Prefecture, southwestern Japan. Previously, the launch was scheduled for August 28, but MHI announced a postponement due to strong winds.
SLIM is expected to enter orbit around the Moon about 3-4 months after launch and is likely to land on the Moon’s surface after 4-6 months. If successful, the data collected by Japan from the Moon will be used for the US-led Artemis project, which aims to return humans to the Moon by 2025.
