Flash floods after heavy rains caused serious landslides on National Highway 16, from Km300 to Km309, in Nhon Mai commune, Tuong Duong district ( Nghe An ). Of which, 3 particularly dangerous landslides are located at Km306+550, Km306+850 and Km307+850, in Xoi Voi village.
At these locations, the negative slope was washed away, causing the roadbed to break up to 100m and 70m long, completely cutting off the vital traffic route, greatly affecting the travel and transportation of goods of people in the highlands.

On the morning of May 30, immediately after receiving the information, Nghe An Department of Construction directed the Maintenance Management Board to coordinate with Trung Tin Joint Stock Company - the traffic management unit on the route to mobilize machinery and equipment to the scene for emergency handling.
Present at the scene of the landslide at Km306+850, in Xoi Voi village, Nhon Mai commune, Tuong Duong district - the place that suffered the most damage due to flash floods, the reporter recorded a series of machines operating continuously, urgently overcoming the consequences. Mr. Nguyen Huu Duc - technical officer of Trung Tin Joint Stock Company - the traffic management unit on the route said: From May 30 until now, the unit has mobilized 7 excavators to work from both ends of the route, implementing construction around the clock in shifts to speed up the progress.

The large volume of landslides, rugged mountainous terrain, and erratic weather are significant obstacles in the recovery process. However, up to now, the unit has dug and leveled nearly 7,000 m³ of soil and rock, completed the re-filling of 3 broken sections of the road, and at the same time, processed and cleared 9 drainage culverts with diameters of 1 - 1.5 meters, which were buried 3 - 4 meters deep. Thanks to that, the road has been temporarily opened to traffic, but only trucks under 7 tons are allowed to circulate to ensure safety.

“We are still waiting for further instructions and repair plans from superiors so that we can implement measures to solidify the road in the near future,” Mr. Duc added.
Regarding the long-term solution, Mr. Hoang Quoc Truong - Director of the Road Maintenance Management Board (Nghe An Department of Construction) said that, in the face of serious landslides on National Highway 16, the Department of Construction has submitted to the People's Committee of Nghe An province to issue an emergency order to deploy remedial measures at severely damaged locations.
