Speed up production
Currently, Pho Hien Ward has over 50 households engaged in the production and sale of wooden furniture, with approximately 70 workshops and shops operating regularly, creating jobs for around 400-500 local and neighboring workers. Total revenue is estimated to exceed 100 billion VND per year, making a significant contribution to the ward's economic development.
The last few months of the year are always the busiest time for carpentry workshops. Almost all workshops have to hire extra workers to meet delivery deadlines. The diverse range of products and quick response to customer demand ensures a constant supply of work. A prime example is the carpentry workshop of Mr. Hoang Van Kien, a long-time craftsman in An Chieu 2 residential area. His workshop produces items such as cabinets, beds, tables, chairs, and decorative items on a stable scale year-round. Thanks to his focus on materials, techniques, and aesthetics, his products are ordered by many customers on a long-term basis. Currently, the workshop maintains 10-15 regular workers, with an income of 8-10 million VND per person per month. During the peak season at the end of the year, production doubles, and workers work almost non-stop to fulfill orders.
Along National Highway 39, which runs through the ward, dozens of furniture stores are always bustling with customers. On average, hundreds of products are sold daily, consumed within the province and neighboring markets. Prices vary widely, from a few million dong, tens of millions dong to hundreds of millions dong per item, depending on the wood material, size, and design, allowing customers to choose according to their needs.

Brand affirmation
The strength of the Pho Hien carpentry lies not only in its durability and designs but also in its ability to quickly grasp market trends. Whatever design or style customers request, the workshops can produce it immediately. Workshop owners connect with larger workshops in other provinces to ensure a consistent supply. This flexibility helps the carpentry industry in the ward maintain its competitiveness. Besides customers within the province, Pho Hien's wooden products are sold to major cities and provinces such as Hanoi and Hai Phong, particularly to those purchasing affordable household and furniture items. Buyers appreciate the durability, aesthetics, and especially the reasonable prices compared to many larger production areas.

Beyond just producing consumer goods, Pho Hien also boasts skilled craftsmen who have pursued a more unique path: the construction of traditional wooden houses. One prominent example is Mr. Doan Ba Nguyen, Director of Ngoc Anh Wood and Agricultural Products Trading Company Limited. Originally a carpenter, Mr. Nguyen has dedicated 20 years to the craft, traveling to many renowned woodworking regions to learn the techniques of traditional wooden house construction. In 2017, he established his own business, assembling a team of craftsmen from both within and outside the province to provide construction services for wooden houses, temples, pagodas, and other traditional wooden structures nationwide. Each year, the company constructs 6-7 high-quality wooden houses, churches, temples, and pagodas, providing stable employment for 30-35 regular workers with incomes starting from 10 million VND per month, while highly skilled craftsmen can earn over 30 million VND per month. Mr. Nguyen shared: “Traditional wooden houses require meticulousness, precision, and a deep understanding of architecture. I want to preserve the beauty of this traditional craft while also taking traditional products further afield.”

The income of carpenters in the ward is relatively stable. Unskilled laborers earn 8-10 million VND per month, while highly skilled technicians can earn 25-30 million VND per month, helping many households become well-off and achieve stable lives. The atmosphere of production at the end of the year is always vibrant, stretching from large workshops to small family businesses. Each finished product is not only the result of hard work but also bears the mark of skill and perseverance – values that have built the reputation of carpentry in Pho Hien ward today.
