Customers cancel in bulk, company refunds

On September 2, before the news that boats and ferries to and from Phu Quoc Island ( Kien Giang ) had temporarily stopped operating due to bad weather from storm No. 3 , many travel agencies in Phu Quoc sadly said they were having to deal with the situation of customers canceling tours at the last minute.

Ships and ferries to and from Phu Quoc Island have had to temporarily stop operating due to bad weather caused by storm No. 3.

Mr. Nguyen Vu Khac Huy, General Director of Vina Phu Quoc Travel, said that the number of visitors on September 2 this year was only about 60% of the number of visitors compared to the same period last year, equivalent to the number of visitors on normal weekends, without the sudden growth like in previous years. There were not many visitors, so when the ships and ferries temporarily stopped operating, the number of visitors to Phu Quoc was even lower.

"Currently, the company still has some groups of customers stuck on the shores of Ha Tien City and Rach Gia City, unable to return to Phu Quoc Island. Tomorrow (September 3), even if the boat and ferry can run again, it is likely that they will not go to the island anymore, because there is not much time left for the holiday," said Mr. Huy, adding that for all groups of customers who cancel their tours due to bad weather, the company will refund all deposits without charging any fees.

Tourists coming to Phu Quoc on the occasion of September 2nd holiday this year are quite few compared to previous years due to bad weather.

Similarly, Mr. Mai Hoang Truong, a canoe tour operator for the southern islands of Phu Quoc of Dandy Travel Company, admitted that the number of visitors to the company during the 2.9 holiday this year was quite low. Due to the impact of the storm on the day before the holiday, the tours were not able to operate for almost 2 days. Therefore, many customers who booked tours in advance were forced to cancel their trips. This is an objective reason, the company will refund all deposits to customers.

In the same situation, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Binh, Director of Rach Tram Travel Company , informed that the company had a group of 42 people who just canceled on September 1. The company also completed the refund procedure for this group of guests 10 days after the holiday.

It is not known when the train will run again.

The sudden bad weather has also significantly affected the activities of tourist groups staying in Phu Quoc. According to Mr. Duong Van Khon, Director of Phu Quoc Today Tourism Joint Stock Company, the company has 4 groups flying to Phu Quoc. Currently, tourists can only stay at hotels to rest and shop indoors, while outside attractions (especially fishing and coral viewing tours) are paralyzed.

"We also have a group of tourists from the West who were scheduled to fly to Phu Quoc this morning. When they heard that the boat was not running, they were unable to react in time and were forced to take a car to Ho Chi Minh City to fly to Phu Quoc by air to be on the island today. Because on the last day of the holiday, the tourists were scheduled to fly from Phu Quoc to Hanoi ," said Mr. Khon.

The impact of storm No. 3 has caused unfavorable weather in Phu Quoc, many tours to visit islands and dive to see coral cannot operate.

Currently, visitors who have been to Phu Quoc Island since yesterday (September 1) by boat or ferry all share the same concern of not knowing when these means of transport will be allowed to operate again. Mr. Nguyen Minh Tuan (a tourist from Hau Giang) who is staying in Phu Quoc lamented that his family planned to return on September 4 by boat, but given the current weather conditions, it is likely that they will have to postpone their trip by a few more days. "To save money, my family has switched to a cheaper motel and limited our spending in case we are stuck on the island for a long time," said Mr. Tuan.

Previously, as Thanh Nien reported, on the morning of September 2, all passenger transport by water to and from Phu Quoc Island had to stop operating due to bad weather. The resumption of boat operations will depend on weather developments that are updated daily.

Flights to Phu Quoc are operating normally.

Mr. Nguyen Minh Dong, Director of Phu Quoc International Airport, said that flights to and from this airport are still operating normally. According to the plan, on September 2, this airport will receive 32 flights, and on September 3, it will be 37 flights.
