Like other newborns, Nguyen Minh Tri was able to see normally when he was born. At the age of one, his eyes became cloudy and gradually turned a milky white. Although his parents took him to a specialized hospital in Ho Chi Minh City for treatment, his vision could not be restored. Since then, all he sees is an endless expanse of darkness.
In 2008, Tri's family took him to the Tay Ninh Provincial Center for the Education of Visually Impaired Children (Hoa Thanh Ward) to receive an education. Tri had a particular love for music and dedicated himself wholeheartedly to this art form. Later, he passed the entrance exam for the Music Education program at Saigon University (Ho Chi Minh City).
“My biggest challenge when studying at university was the curriculum and materials. The materials for my major were books, not digital files, so I had to scan them into PDFs to read. Some friends helped by reading out musical notes, which I then transcribed into Braille to learn,” Tri recounted.

To date, Tri is proficient in playing musical instruments such as the organ, piano, guitar, and drums. Not only is he a talented musician, but this visually impaired student also has a strong singing voice. In 2025, Tri won a Gold Medal at the Southern Region Singing Contest for People with Disabilities and a Silver Medal at the National Singing Contest for People with Disabilities.
Currently, Tri has just finished his final year of university and completed his internship. Sharing his future plans, Tri said: "My plan is to pass on my knowledge and experience in culture and music to those who are less fortunate, just like me."
From his early days learning musical notes and piano keys, to now, Tri is about to graduate from the Music Education program. With his valuable skills and a burning desire to contribute to society, it is hoped that in the not-too-distant future, visually impaired graduate Nguyen Minh Tri will be hired by centers for visually impaired children and schools for the visually impaired both within and outside the province. From there, this visually impaired young man will have the opportunity to fulfill his dream of contributing to society and spreading hope and aspiration to underprivileged children.
