The National Assembly Standing Committee has just issued Resolution No. 1247/NQ-UBTVQH15 on the arrangement of commune-level administrative units of Kien Giang province for the period 2023 - 2025. The Resolution takes effect from December 1, 2024.

According to the Resolution, the arrangement of commune-level administrative units (AUUs) in Rach Gia city is as follows: Merge the entire natural area of 1.18 km2 and population of 15,990 people of Vinh Bao ward into Vinh Thanh Van ward. After the merger, Vinh Thanh Van ward has a natural area of 1.99 km2 and a population of 27,429 people.
After the arrangement, Rach Gia city has 11 commune-level administrative units, including 10 wards and 01 commune.
After rearranging commune-level administrative units, Kien Giang province has 15 district-level administrative units, including 12 districts and 03 cities; 143 commune-level administrative units, including 116 communes, 17 wards and 10 towns.
The Resolution also clearly states that the Government, the People's Council, the People's Committee of Kien Giang province and relevant agencies and organizations are responsible for organizing the implementation of the Resolution; arranging and perfecting the apparatus of local agencies and organizations; stabilizing the lives of local people, ensuring the requirements of socio- economic development, national defense and security in the area.
The Government directs relevant Ministries and Kien Giang provincial authorities to continue researching and developing appropriate arrangement plans for administrative units that are subject to arrangement but have not yet been arranged in the 2023 - 2025 period, and to determine a roadmap for completing the necessary standards and conditions to ensure the arrangement in the following years in accordance with regulations.
