People are very happy to have doctors from Can Tho come here to examine them.

The medical examination and treatment program of Hoa Hao General Hospital - Medic Can Tho in Tan Bang commune, Thoi Binh district is part of the trip back to the source organized by the Voice of Vietnam in the Mekong Delta region in coordination with Thoi Binh district, Ca Mau province, to review the activities of the Southern Resistance Radio Station on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025), towards the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Voice of Vietnam (September 7, 1945 - September 7, 2025).

The medical examination program was held at Tan Bang Secondary and High School. From early morning, many people came to the examination point, sitting in line waiting for their turn. Most of them were elderly; many were single, with difficult economic conditions, so they rarely went to the district hospital or health station, which were 10-20km away from home. Therefore, when hearing about the free medical examination program, many people participated. Mr. Tran Van Tho (77 years old) said that he had not gone to the hospital for a long time even though he was not feeling well. His children and grandchildren all work far away, so he had to hire a motorbike taxi to go to the district hospital for a check-up, while his arms and legs were getting weaker and weaker, he could not sit on the motorbike and felt tired. "Today, a doctor from a higher level came back, bringing modern equipment to give him a general examination, including blood tests, heart and lung tests. I was very happy, because I was examined and also received gifts. I thank the doctors very much," Mr. Tho expressed.

Doctor CKII Kim Thanh Loc advises people.

During the examination, Dr. Kim Thanh Loc, Deputy Head of the Department of Surgery at Hoa Hao General Hospital - Medic Can Tho, noted that most elderly patients suffer from chronic diseases, commonly high blood pressure, musculoskeletal diseases, diabetes and digestive diseases... The elderly all know their medical history and have visited local medical facilities. During the examination and consultation, the doctor reminded the patient to maintain regular health check-ups, at least once a year. People with chronic diseases, when detected, need to be treated by a specialist, or monitor their health and disease progression with a doctor or medical facility near their home for convenient travel, especially for the elderly.

Like many previous community health examination and treatment programs, this time, Hoa Hao General Hospital - Medic Can Tho also brought a mobile medical vehicle to serve the people. Therefore, people were examined, combined with paraclinical techniques such as blood sugar testing, electrocardiogram, ultrasound, X-ray, ... to help detect diseases promptly. Dr. Son Thanh Thinh said that he had performed nearly 50 abdominal ultrasounds and detected many cases of diseases in the liver, kidney, ureter, uterus, etc. According to Dr. Thinh, general ultrasound is a low-cost - highly effective diagnostic support method, diagnosing many diseases even before symptoms appear. Therefore, everyone needs to pay attention to regular health check-ups, abdominal ultrasound screening 1-2 times a year, especially the elderly.

People are given paraclinical techniques to screen for diseases.

Eye doctors note that most elderly people suffer from cataracts.

The examination program also screens for eye diseases for the people. Ophthalmologists noted that more than half of the elderly patients had cataracts, the rest had the disease and had previous interventions. Cataracts are common in the elderly, if not treated, they can gradually progress, leading to vision loss, even blindness. At Hoa Hao General Hospital - Medic Can Tho, the Eye Center performs many advanced techniques to treat eye diseases, including cataracts. Patients can have eye surgery and be discharged the same day; surgery costs are covered by health insurance according to regulations.
