Immediately after the Nghe An Provincial People's Committee announced that boats could return to sea after a temporary suspension due to the impact of storm No. 3, on the morning of July 24, key fishing ports such as Cua Lo, Quynh Mai, etc. quickly became bustling again. Fishing boats that had been anchored for many days in the shelter area were now preparing to set sail, bringing with them the fishermen's hope for a favorable and profitable fishing season.
At Quynh Mai fishing port, fishermen are busy preparing for a new trip. Without anyone telling them what to do, each person has a job: some check the machinery, test the positioning system, some take advantage of the opportunity to bring ice into the hold, others worry about replenishing fuel, food and other necessities. Stacks of nets are loaded onto the boat, the sound of the engine roars, laughter and calls to each other resound throughout the port.

Ship owner Nguyen Van Quang (ship TH 93986 TS, Thanh Hoa province) and 5 sailors are busy preparing to leave the port after 3 days of taking shelter from the storm in Quynh Mai. His ship specializes in fishing in the Gulf of Tonkin, and due to the storm, he was instructed to take shelter at Quynh Mai fishing port. After 3 days off sea to avoid the storm, this morning, he and his crew carefully prepared fishing gear, food and fuel to prepare to go to sea.
“We are very grateful to the local authorities and the fishing association for providing us with food and accommodation during our shelter. Although we are far from home, we are very secure because we have good conditions. Hopefully this trip will be a fruitful one, because according to experience, after a storm, we often catch valuable seafood,” Quang shared while putting ice into the storage compartment.

Not far away, fishing boat NA 99368 TS of Mr. Hoang Van Thang residing in Quynh Mai ward (old Hoang Mai town) is also completing the final stages to set sail. As a large capacity iron-hulled boat, specializing in offshore fishing in Hoang Sa fishing grounds, Mr. Thang's boat has up to 8 sailors, so the preparation work must be even more thorough. "After the storm is the time when fish emerge, especially valuable species such as tuna, mackerel, squid... If carefully prepared, just a few days at sea can yield a large yield," Mr. Thang believes.
Not only large offshore fishing vessels, small capacity vessels also quickly set off after a long period of anchorage. Fishing vessels NA 93305 TS of Mr. Nguyen Bui Huan (residing in Quynh Mai ward) and NA 90061 TS of Mr. Ho Phuc Khoa (residing in Tan Mai ward), both small inshore fishing vessels, have also completed the preparation stages: checking the engine, adding gill nets, trawl nets, preparing clean water, rice, salt, dried food... to take advantage of going out to sea on calm sea days.

At Cua Lo port, boats are also preparing to set sail, with excitement clearly visible on the faces of each fisherman. Nguyen Dac Quyen, a young fisherman, excitedly shared: “Our boats only fish for about 5-7 days, so we have to take advantage of the time after the storm, when seafood resources are abundant. Each trip like that, if favorable, can bring back several tons of fish and squid, and the crew members have a good income.”

Many fishermen also added that in the weather conditions after the storm, there are often fish migrating close to shore, or drifting to the bottom areas with moderate depth. This is a rare opportunity to harvest seafood with high economic value such as mackerel, red snapper, orange fish, squid, cuttlefish, etc. Each trip to sea after the storm brings with it many hopes of a bumper harvest.
It is known that during the time of storm No. 3, thousands of fishing boats were guided to take shelter safely at coastal fishing ports. After the storm, the border guards, port authorities and fishing associations coordinated to check technical safety conditions, guide fishermen to declare departure according to regulations and create all favorable conditions for boats to return to sea./.
