Maker of more than 50,000 rice production machines

In nearly 30 years of experience, engineer Nguyen Hong Thien has manufactured more than 50,000 mechanical devices for rice production.

Engineer Nguyen Hong Thien, Director of Tu Sang LLC (Cau Xeo Hamlet, Hoi Cu Commune, Dong Thap Province) is known by many as the "father" of tens of thousands of agricultural machines that help farmers mechanize rice production effectively.

Born into a family of mechanics closely connected to the fields, Nguyen Hong Thien's passion for machinery came to him very early. After graduating from Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, he returned to his hometown and developed his family's mechanical workshop into Tu Sang LLC, specializing in the production of agricultural machinery. From here, the young engineer's creative journey officially began.

With systematic knowledge, combined with his father's experience and practical experience in the fields, Mr. Thien and his team of engineers and skilled workers have continuously invented, improved, and converted many types of machines to serve rice cultivation. Fields from Dong Thap, Long An, An Giang to Tay Ninh, Soc Trang ... everywhere there is the presence of Tu Sang branded machines.

The machines help in efficient production and cost savings.

Obvious effectiveness when put into production of high quality rice

Among the series of mechanized products that engineer Nguyen Hong Thien created, the self-propelled straw baler is considered a "bright star". This machine is capable of collecting straw on an area of ​​up to 5 hectares/day, equivalent to the working capacity of more than 50 manual workers. To date, more than 500 of his straw balers have been used in the fields, a number that reflects the market's confidence in the "made in Dong Thap" invention.

Not stopping at straw, Mr. Thien continues to develop organic fertilizer mixers to help farmers produce organic fertilizers right in the fields. Thanks to that, people significantly reduce their dependence on chemical fertilizers, save costs, and at the same time improve the soil, moving towards green and sustainable farming.

Another important product is the combined seeding and fertilizing machine, which allows simultaneous sowing and fertilizing. Thanks to even seeding and fertilizing, farmers save seeds, reduce labor costs, and significantly increase farming efficiency.

In addition, the IRRI - APV.TSDN - H4 plow-mounted seeder helps sow at even intervals, reducing the amount of seeds by 30 - 50% compared to traditional broadcast sowing. When reducing sowing density, rice competes less for nutrients, has fewer pests and diseases, thereby reducing pesticides, lowering costs and increasing profits.

The special thing about Nguyen Hong Thien's research process is that he goes directly to the fields, works closely with farmers, listens to feedback, observes the farming conditions of each region and then adjusts the design accordingly. Thanks to that, each product is highly practical, easy to operate and fuel-efficient.

Mr. Thien's mechanical products participate in serving the Project of 1 million hectares of high-quality, low-emission rice.

In 2010, the combine harvester he invented won first prize at the National Technical Innovation Competition and was awarded a certificate of merit by the Prime Minister - a milestone affirming the creative capacity of rural engineers.

The mechanized equipment manufactured by Nguyen Hong Thien is being widely applied in large programs such as large-scale fields, emission reduction models in rice cultivation, especially the Project of 1 million hectares of high-quality, low-emission rice.

In Can Tho, Tien Thuan Agricultural Service Cooperative (Thanh Quoi Commune) applied Tu Sang's fertilizer-burying seeding machine on an area of ​​50 hectares under the 1 million hectares of high-quality rice project. The amount of seeds was reduced to 70 kg/ha, the number of fertilizer applications was reduced to only 1 time when the rice was 45 days old; pesticides were reduced to 4 times; the yield reached 6.4 tons/ha, an increase of 0.4 tons compared to traditional farming; the profit increased by 2 - 6 million VND/ha.

In Tay Ninh, Tan Binh Agricultural Service Cooperative has piloted 14 hectares of using seeders combined with buried fertilizer. The result: the amount of seeds sown is 80 kg/ha, fertilizer is 200 kg/ha, costs are greatly reduced but productivity is still guaranteed.

Farmer Tran Van Luu, a household participating in the model, said that applying the method of sparse sowing combined with fertilizing from the beginning helps his family not have to add fertilizer during the first 45 days after sowing. Thanks to that, costs and labor are significantly reduced, while limiting negative impacts on the environment.

Invention goes hand in hand with people

Not only stopping at production activities, engineer Nguyen Hong Thien also pays special attention to registering intellectual property protection for the products he researches. He has currently filed applications for two inventions including a combine harvester and a combined seeding machine with fertilizing; of which the seeding product has been accepted for more than a year.

Sharing his motivation for pursuing this career, engineer Nguyen Hong Thien said he is most satisfied when the machines he creates can help farmers produce more efficiently and save costs. The joy of farmers is the motivation for him to continue creating and improving his products.

Along with production, Mr. Thien also trained a team of dozens of skilled workers and engineers; many of whom have been with Tu Sang Company for more than 20 years and consider manufacturing machines to serve farmers a source of professional pride. Worker Doan Van Mut shared that when the products are completed and tested well in the fields, everyone in the workshop feels very excited, because each part and each detail is the collective effort of the whole team.

Not only trusted by the domestic market, many mechanical products of engineer Nguyen Hong Thien have also been exported to countries in the Southeast Asian region, contributing to affirming the reputation of the Vietnamese agricultural mechanical industry.

Looking to the future, Mr. Thien continues to research and develop machine lines suitable for small fields and swampy areas; at the same time, applying modern technology to ensure stable machine operation in many different farming conditions. According to him, the highest goal is always to increase economic efficiency for farmers, and therefore every product must be continuously improved to become more perfect.

With his passion for machinery, his attachment to the fields and his persistent creative spirit, engineer Nguyen Hong Thien has become one of the leading figures in the country’s agricultural mechanical engineering industry. More than 50,000 products manufactured by him have helped tens of thousands of farmers reduce costs, increase productivity and contribute to promoting the transformation of agriculture towards modernity and low emissions.

His story is also a representative image of the Mekong Delta people who silently contribute to creating sustainable values ​​for their homeland.
