Previously, on June 13, Thong Nhat Hospital coordinated with the National Organ Transplant Coordination Center and experts from Cho Ray Hospital, 108 Military Central Hospital, Hue Central Hospital, Children's Hospital 2, Forensic Examination of Hospital 115, Vinh Loc A Police, Ho Chi Minh City Police and a number of supporting units (Traffic Police of the City Police, Tan Son Nhat Airport, Vietnam Airline) to organize the collection and transportation of 7 organ units from brain-dead donors and successfully transplant them to recipients.

A male patient named Nguyen HN (born in 1986, from Phu Yen ) was admitted to Thong Nhat Hospital for emergency treatment due to a very severe traumatic brain injury, brain contusion, and cerebral hemorrhage in a deep coma, Glasgow 3 points. Emergency Department doctors performed resuscitation and intubation, and also invited consultation from the Department of Surgery, Anesthesia, and Resuscitation and Neurosurgery.
The doctors at Thong Nhat Hospital were active and dedicated in their treatment, however, due to the seriousness of the patient's condition, the doctors had to explain to the family.

The hospital activated the hospital's Organ Donation and Transplantation Association to meet with the patient's family. After a thorough explanation, the family made a very noble gesture of agreeing to donate tissues, organs, and body parts when the patient was brain dead.
The hospital has established a professional council consisting of members inside and outside the hospital with related specialties to assess the patient's condition.

On the morning of June 13, after the conclusion of the brain death assessment council, Associate Professor, Dr. Le Dinh Thanh, Director of Thong Nhat Hospital chaired a professional consultation with experts from the National Organ Transplant Coordination Center, Hospital 108, Hue Central Hospital, and Children's Hospital 2.

The experts agreed and decided to start the organ harvesting surgery at 3:30 p.m. on June 13. The organ harvesting surgery from the brain-dead donor was successful, 7 organ units were quickly transported to hospitals for transplant to recipients, including 2 kidneys transplanted to 2 patients at Thong Nhat Hospital, 1 heart and 1 part of the liver, 2 corneas transplanted to 4 patients at Hue Central Hospital, 1 part of the liver transplanted to a patient at Children's Hospital 2.
The Board of Directors of Thong Nhat Hospital assigned departments to carefully organize the funeral for the organ donor and bring him back to his hometown for burial.
