On May 18, the leader of the People's Committee of Quach Pham Commune, Dam Doi District ( Ca Mau ) confirmed that Mr. NXD (64 years old, residing in Quach Pham Commune) died from being stung by a wasp while fishing.
Initial information said that at noon on May 14, Mr. D. alone brought a fishing rod to an area about 8 km from his house to fish. While moving, he unfortunately hit a hornet's nest in the bushes near the field. Agitated, the swarm of bees rushed out to attack, stinging Mr. D. more than 100 times all over his body.
Trying to escape the dangerous area and calling relatives for help, Mr. D.'s condition quickly worsened. His family immediately took him to Quach Pham Commune Health Station for first aid, then transferred him to Cai Nuoc District General Hospital. However, due to being stung so many times, Mr. D. fell into a state of severe anaphylactic shock and was transferred to a hospital in Can Tho City.
Despite the doctors' efforts to treat him, Mr. D. did not survive and was taken home by his family to prepare for his funeral.
With the characteristic of attacking in swarms and strong venom, hornets are very dangerous. Local authorities advise people to be extremely vigilant when going to the forest, going to the fields or working in the wild in the summer, especially at hot noon, the time when it is easy to irritate the beehive, especially the hornets.
