Given the prolonged heatwave, Dr. Pham Ngoc Thang (Outpatient Department, Da Nang Hospital) advises people to proactively take measures to protect their health.
People should drink enough water, 1.5-2.5 liters per day, and supplement with oral rehydration solution (ORS) when the body loses a lot of sweat. Limit going outside between 10 am and 4 pm, and avoid working or engaging in physical activity under intense sunlight; when going outside, wear a hat and sun-protective clothing to reduce the impact of high temperatures.
In addition, it is necessary to ensure hygienic eating habits, proper food storage, and personal hygiene, including washing hands before eating and after using the toilet. Air conditioning should also be used appropriately, maintaining a temperature of 26-28°C, avoiding large differences compared to the outside environment.
For children, it is necessary to get all the necessary vaccinations against diseases such as dengue fever and Japanese encephalitis. In particular, people with underlying conditions such as cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, and kidney disease need to monitor their health closely, maintain regular medication use, and limit strenuous activity in hot weather.
