(Dan Tri Newspaper) - In January, the number of workers registering for unemployment benefits in Ho Chi Minh City was 5,463, a decrease of 4,351 applications (corresponding to a 44% decrease) compared to the same period in 2024.
These figures were compiled by the Ho Chi Minh City Employment Service Center from January 1st to January 31st.
Compared to January 2024, January 2025 had a week off for the Lunar New Year, so the decrease in the number of workers registering for unemployment benefits is not surprising. However, the 44% reduction is significant, reflecting a positive shift in the labor and employment situation in the city at the beginning of 2025.

According to Ms. Nguyen Van Hanh Thuc, Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Employment Service Center, the demand for labor recruitment by businesses before Tet is very high to meet the increased production and business needs.
Therefore, right before Tet (Lunar New Year), the center organized a job fair to connect job seekers during the Tet season, giving job seekers and businesses looking to recruit a chance to meet.
At the same time, center staff also provided counseling and job placement services to more than 18,000 workers receiving unemployment benefits, helping them find new opportunities.
Anticipating that manufacturing businesses will increase recruitment after the Lunar New Year, the Ho Chi Minh City Employment Service Center has also deployed staff to bus stations and train stations to reach out to new workers from other provinces coming to the city to find jobs, and introduce them to businesses that are hiring.

Ms. Hanh Thuc stated that in February, the Center will coordinate with the City's Youth Employment Service Center to organize the "Supporting Workers" campaign and the "2025 Job Fair" to strengthen the connection between labor supply and demand.
