Farewell to the excellent son of heroic Pho Khanh

At nearly 3 p.m. on May 25, the hearse carrying the coffin of former President Tran Duc Luong arrived at his hometown of Pho Khanh. Right at the turnoff from National Highway 1 to the cemetery at the foot of Dong Bo Mountain, thousands of people stood crowded the path, their eyes filled with sorrow.

The road, more than 2km long, was packed with people, walking one after another towards the mountain. Even though it was sunny, the old people did not mind. Mr. Chin Hoang was breathing heavily as he climbed the slope, saying, "Uncle Luong spent his whole life serving the country and the people. It's nothing for us to walk 2km to visit him."

Solemn music resounded, and the coffin of the former President returned to the motherland. At that moment, the family cried bitterly; many people were silent, their eyes following the last moments of a man devoted to the country and the people.

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh stated that in recent days, the State funeral of former President Tran Duc Luong has received the respect and infinite condolences of leaders of the Party , State, Vietnam Fatherland Front, compatriots, comrades and international friends.

Up to now, the funeral organizing committee and family have carefully completed the organization of the visitation, memorial service, and farewell to him to his final resting place.

"May the soul of comrade Tran Duc Luong, former President, rest in eternal peace. Farewell comrade Tran Duc Luong," said Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh.

Ms. Cuc (Pho Khanh commune) and her mother stood waiting outside (about 200m from the funeral) and shared: "My mother is old, but she said she had to wait to visit Uncle Luong. He has made many great contributions to the country, so waiting a little bit is not difficult or tiring."

The afternoon gradually faded, the sunlight disappeared behind Dong Bo mountain, the funeral rites were over. Yet many people still came to the grave. At this time, they leisurely lit incense and remembered an outstanding son of this land...
