Farewell to the outstanding son of the heroic Pho Khanh.
At nearly 3 PM on May 25th, the hearse carrying the coffin of former President Tran Duc Luong arrived at his hometown of Pho Khanh. At the turnoff from National Highway 1 to the burial site at the foot of Dong Bo Mountain, thousands of people crowded the path, their eyes filled with sorrow.
The road, over 2km long, was packed with people, all heading towards the mountain. Despite the scorching sun, the elderly didn't mind. Mr. Chin Hoang, panting as he climbed the slope, said, "Uncle Luong dedicated his whole life to the country and its people; walking 2km to pay our respects is nothing compared to that."
The solemn music resounded as the coffin of the former President returned to the embrace of Mother Earth. In that moment, the family wept uncontrollably; many citizens fell silent, their eyes fixed on the final moments of a man who had devoted himself wholeheartedly to the nation and its people.

"May the soul of Comrade Tran Duc Luong, former President of Vietnam, rest in eternal peace. Farewell, Comrade Tran Duc Luong," said Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh.
Ms. Cúc (from Phổ Khánh commune), who was waiting outside with her mother (about 200m from the funeral ceremony), shared: "My mother is also elderly, but she said we had to wait to pay our respects to Uncle Lương. He made many great contributions to the country, so waiting a little while is not a hardship or a tiring experience."
As the afternoon faded and the sunlight disappeared behind the Dong Bo mountain, the funeral rites were over. Yet, many people still came to the burial site. At this time, they leisurely lit incense sticks and remembered an outstanding son of this land...
