The 2025 Southeast Asian U23 final match between U23 Vietnam and host U23 Indonesia took place with tension and fierceness at the "fire pit" Gelora Bung Karno, Jakarta.
The turning point came in the 36th minute, from Dinh Bac's corner kick, Ly Duc made an effort to head the ball tactically, captain Khuat Van Khang continued to create a wall for Cong Phuong to swing his leg to volley the ball into the net of U23 Indonesia.

This personal goal not only opened up a historic victory but also marked the spectacular return of the midfielder born in 2006 in the U23 Vietnam shirt, after nearly a year of absence at this level.
Cong Phuong showed his talent for football very early. Born in Hai Duong , he started training at the age of 9, then joined Viettel training center when he was 12. With outstanding talent, Phuong was promoted to the first team of The Cong Viettel when he was only 17 years old and quickly demonstrated his ability in the V-League arena.
Although only 19 years old, Cong Phuong has had nearly 20 professional matches. He is highly appreciated by experts for his calm playing style, sharp tactical thinking and flexible ball handling ability.

Notably, Cong Phuong was the captain of the Vietnam U17 team and won the double title of "Best Player" and "Top Scorer" at the National U17 tournament. Currently, the midfielder of The Cong - Viettel is also the captain of the Vietnam U20 team.
With a golden goal against U23 Indonesia, Nguyen Cong Phuong is proving why he is expected to be a bright future for Vietnamese football. This performance will certainly be an important stepping stone for this young talent's promising future career.
