On the morning of August 1, the Standing Committee of the An Giang Provincial Party Committee held a working session with the Provincial People's Committee and the Standing Committee of the Phu Quoc Special Zone Party Committee to listen to reports on the implementation of political tasks of the Phu Quoc Special Zone Party Committee; preparations for the APEC 2027 conference; urban beautification work and progress in building the Phu Quoc green transformation project for the period 2025-2030, with a vision to 2040; and to give opinions on preparations for organizing the Phu Quoc Special Zone Party Congress for the term 2025-2030.

Phu Quoc is a place worth living, a place to visit
Speaking at the meeting, Party Central Committee member and An Giang Provincial Party Secretary Nguyen Tien Hai emphasized: The Central Government's selection of Phu Quoc as the venue for the APEC 2027 Summit is a great honor and pride for the Provincial Party Committee and Phu Quoc Special Zone. This is an important opportunity to promote the local image to international friends, affirming Phu Quoc as a green, civilized, livable and potential tourist destination.
The Provincial Party Secretary said that the province had registered to work with the Prime Minister early to propose organizing a meeting between the Prime Minister and the leaders of Kien Giang province (now An Giang) in Hanoi, to prepare for the organization of APEC 2027. Immediately after that, the Provincial Party Standing Committee and the Provincial Party Standing Committee directed the development of a comprehensive project to serve APEC 2027 activities.
Regarding the preparation work for APEC 2027, Provincial Party Secretary Nguyen Tien Hai stated: The Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee and the Standing Committee of the An Giang Provincial Party Committee have assigned the Provincial People's Committee to advise the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee to establish a provincial-level Steering Committee and prepare a comprehensive plan to serve APEC 2027.
The overall project must include specific component projects, including: First, the project on the communication campaign, which must be implemented before, during and after the conference, targeting a wide range of audiences from civil servants, public employees, and workers in state agencies, to businesses and people inside and outside the province. The media needs to clarify the importance of the APEC 2027 event, while promoting the image of An Giang province in general and Phu Quoc Special Zone in particular as a green tourist destination, a livable place, a must-go place, to attract international investors and tourists.
Second, the project to renovate the Phu Quoc special economic zone. The Provincial Party Secretary emphasized the need to mobilize the participation of the entire political system, businesses and people. The people must also participate in carrying out this task with the State. It is unacceptable for Phu Quoc to have substandard wastewater, unclean garbage, no place to treat garbage, and roads and markets encroaching on sidewalks. The goal is to build Phu Quoc into a civilized, green, clean, beautiful urban area, worthy of an international event.
Third, the project to train and develop a team of officials, employees and people serving APEC 2027. The forces must play the role of "ambassadors", both fluent in foreign languages and knowledgeable about the culture and people of the countries, to welcome and serve domestic and international delegates and guests attentively.
In addition, Provincial Party Secretary Nguyen Tien Hai also requested to focus on implementing the project to monitor the entire progress of investment projects serving the APEC 2027 Conference. The project is to clearly understand the construction progress, remove obstacles, documents, and procedures to ensure the quality and progress of projects and works.
In addition, the Provincial Party Standing Committee and the Provincial Party Standing Committee have also directed the development of a project to ensure security and order, striving to turn Phu Quoc into a model area of security, free of crime and drugs, a safe and civilized destination for people and tourists.
Bringing Phu Quoc to the forefront of green development
Reporting at the meeting, Provincial Party Committee member, Party Secretary of Phu Quoc Special Zone Le Quoc Anh said that from the beginning of 2024 until now, the City People's Committee (now the Special Zone People's Committee) has directed the development of plans and organized large-scale campaigns, mobilizing all forces in charge of construction and traffic order management, the entire political system to participate, in order to improve state management, discipline, and order in urban management and enhance cultural lifestyle and aesthetics on a number of main roads, streets, central areas and wards and communes.
Illegal constructions on sidewalks were dismantled; illegal billboards were removed; businesses were promoted to sell goods in the right places. The total number of patrols and inspections was 1,375, with 467 cases of confiscation of exhibits, vehicles, and licenses; 166 cases of warnings and commitments; 92 cases of administrative violations were recorded, and 92 decisions of penalties were issued.
The People's Committee of Phu Quoc Special Zone has organized compulsory land recovery in 33 cases and mobilized 53 cases to voluntarily comply with the decision to enforce land encroachment and return the land under State management.
Regarding Party congresses at all levels, after the establishment of the Phu Quoc Special Zone Party Committee, the Special Zone Party Committee issued decisions to establish 63 branches, grassroots party committees, and party cells directly under the Special Zone Party Committee, including: 12 branches, grassroots party committees, and 51 affiliated party cells; to date, 12/12 branches and grassroots party committees have been completed.
At the meeting, the Provincial Party Committee Standing Committee listened to the Phu Quoc Special Zone Party Committee Standing Committee report on the Party Congress preparations and the expected time to hold the congress.
Vice Chairman of An Giang Provincial People's Committee Giang Thanh Khoa reported at the meeting that the Provincial People's Committee has assigned the Department of Construction to advise on the proposal to develop a green transformation project for Phu Quoc 2025-2030, with a vision to 2040. Currently, the province is in the process of reviewing and balancing resources after the merger of the province, and will consider allocating funds to develop the project soon.
The goal is to concretize national orientations and strategies on green growth, along with Phu Quoc planning for the period 2025-2030, with a vision to 2040, to make Phu Quoc one of the leading localities in the country in green and sustainable development, completing green transformation before 2030. Necessary green transformation areas for implementation include: Green transport, green tourism; green urban infrastructure, green energy; green governance and lifestyle. |
Regarding the implementation of the overall project to prepare and organize activities within the framework of the APEC 2027 forum, the Department of Finance has completed the draft project, is collecting opinions from departments, branches and sectors and is continuing to review and complete it to report to the Provincial Party Committee Standing Committee for further completion.
