Tuy Loc is the largest concentrated vegetable production area in the central urban area of Lao Cai province today. This is an alluvial land along the Red River, stretching along 6 residential groups of Nam Cuong ward. Of the 136 hectares of winter-spring vegetables in the 2025-2026 winter-spring crop of the whole ward, Tuy Loc accounts for 66 hectares. The flood caused by the circulation of storm No. 10 in 2025, the rising water of the Red River caused Tuy Loc vegetable growers to lose all their area and yield. After exactly 2 months, from the muddy soil, the familiar green color has returned to Tuy Loc fields.
Tuy Loc vegetable garden is located in the suburbs of Nam Cuong ward, a fertile alluvial land along the Red River, very suitable for growing vegetables. Many vegetable fields in Tuy Loc vegetable growing area have finished harvesting and started to reproduce the second and third batches of green vegetables after the big flood. The green vegetable market is still in short supply, the selling price of vegetables, tubers and fruits is high, favorable weather for green vegetables to grow is the hope of vegetable growers in Tuy Loc for consecutive bumper crops.
Most of Tuy Loc vegetable area is certified as safe production area, following VietGAP cycle. Mr. Ta Ngoc Dung, Xuan Lan residential group, Nam Cuong ward has 1 sao of mixed vegetables, rotating production, intercropping, continuous harvest and continuous reproduction. Mr. Hoang Van Thai's tomato field is in the growing season. After more than 1 month, tomatoes in Tuy Loc have flowered and set fruit, and are expected to be ready for harvest in about 1 month.
The selling price of vegetables, tubers and fruits is much higher than usual, a bunch of green vegetables can cost up to 20-25 thousand VND. This is a great source of encouragement for Tuy Loc vegetable growers to be more diligent, hardworking and attached to farming. Mr. Nguyen Quang Ty grows 1 acre of vegetables, of which 8 sao are rented. He has just harvested a crop of various vegetables and is currently preparing to plant the second crop after the big flood. Tuy Loc vegetable growers expect a good harvest and good price.
After two consecutive years of natural disasters, Tuy Loc vegetable growers are still attached to the profession after many decades. Unlike in the past, mechanization has liberated most of the labor of Tuy Loc people while the green vegetable products still retain their inherent sweet and aromatic taste.
