On the afternoon of December 11, goalkeeper Nguyen Filip posted a photo of his Vietnamese citizen identification card (CCCD) on his personal page. "Finally I have it," the goalkeeper of the Hanoi Police Club shared. On the CCCD, his name is Nguyen Filip. This is the name that the 31-year-old goalkeeper requested to change during the process of applying for Vietnamese citizenship.
Possessing a CCCD, after having Vietnamese nationality, helps Nguyen Filip complete the procedure to become a real Vietnamese citizen with all the necessary documents. The goalkeeper born in 1992 is eligible to wear the Vietnamese national team jersey for the 2023 Asian Cup, in case coach Philippe Troussier calls him up.
Nguyen Filip and his father, Nguyen Minh, went through a nearly 10-year journey to obtain Vietnamese citizenship. Then, in early December, the procedure was completed.

Mr. Nguyen Minh shared with Thanh Nien : "In 2014, I tried to complete the procedures to naturalize Filip. This desire became stronger after my son shone in the Slovan Liberec club shirt, receiving the award for best goalkeeper in the Czech Republic national championship in the 2018-2019 season.
Unfortunately, the pandemic has hindered and delayed the plan. However, I can be proud that my son, who is of Vietnamese and Czech descent, always has special feelings for his fatherland and truly wants to contribute to the Vietnamese homeland."
After successfully naturalizing, he shared on his personal page: "Hello everyone. I'm sure everyone is waiting for news? I would like to announce that I have officially become a Vietnamese citizen. Thank you everyone for supporting me.
Today we have achieved what we have been working towards for the past few years. I can finally announce that I have dual nationality. I would like to thank everyone for their great support, my family, the people at the club and the amazing fans."
The goalkeeper born in 1992 has 8 years of playing in Europe, playing for 2 relatively strong teams in the Czech Republic, Slovan Liberec and Slovacko. He also has experience playing in the Europa League. Filip Nguyen moved to the Hanoi Police Club in the second phase of the 2023 season, winning the V-League championship with his team.
With Vietnamese nationality, Nguyen Filip will likely be on the list of players to join the Vietnamese national team at the end of this month, in preparation for the 2023 Asian Cup.
