As of noon on April 2nd, Độ Mixi's (real name Phùng Thanh Độ) YouTube channel, which has 7.31 million subscribers, was still being held by hackers.
Previously, Độ Mixi's YouTube channel was hacked, with hackers changing the channel name, profile picture, and cover photo from MixiGaming to Ripple, a payment system using blockchain technology. All videos on the channel disappeared.
At the same time, the hackers broadcast two live videos on this YouTube channel predicting the price of XRP, a cryptocurrency.
During the live video stream, the hacker included a link to entice people to buy XRP. According to experts, this link contained malware designed to steal users' information.
To date, the two live video streams have concluded with a combined total of over 320,000 views.
Before his YouTube channel with over 7 million followers was hacked, Độ Mixi jokingly said on a livestream that he "no longer sees hackers on his YouTube and Facebook channels, and he even introduced some friends who are experts in Facebook security."
The two live streams have ended.
Độ Mixi started his career as a video game streamer and quickly attracted viewers with his humorous way of speaking. Besides that, Độ Mixi also frequently livestreams to share his life and work experiences and inspire viewers, especially young people.
According to a security expert, the hacking of Độ Mixi's YouTube channel may have stemmed from negligence on the part of the account owner or administrator, such as installing unlicensed game software on their computer, which was then infected with malware through crack tools.
"Mixi often livestreams new games, so he could be vulnerable to malware. Or hackers might steal account information via email or text messages. If he accidentally enters personal information into fake websites, hackers could use this information to try and access his YouTube account. In addition, malware could be installed on the manager's device without their knowledge," the expert shared.
In addition, experts warn that other popular YouTube channels in Vietnam should be cautious and strengthen their security with multiple layers, as they could be the next targets for hackers.
Previously, YouTube channels like FapTV, Tran Thanh, Ho Quang Hieu, etc., were also hacked and videos were broadcast containing conversations between some foreign experts about finance and cryptocurrency.
However, these incidents are usually resolved quickly. According to experts, given Độ Mixi's current popularity, support teams will likely be able to recover his channel.
