Australian internet and mobile service providers Dodo and iPrimus have recently been the target of another cyber attack, resulting in the data of more than 1,600 customers being leaked.

The incident occurred on October 17 but was announced by Vocus – the parent company of Dodo and iPrimus – the following day.

According to a VNA reporter in Sydney, initial investigations showed that hackers had illegally accessed about 1,600 email accounts and also performed "illegal SIM swapping" on 34 Dodo Mobile accounts - a form of transferring the victim's phone number to a SIM controlled by the subject without consent.

Vocus has assisted customers in reversing the action, suspending and restoring email services, and is working with IDCare and authorities to ensure data security. This is the latest in a series of cyber security incidents involving Australian companies, including Qantas, iiNet and Optus, that have raised concerns for millions of customers.

Qantas previously confirmed that data of about 5.7 million customers was exposed on the “dark web” last week.

In August, telecommunications company iiNet also admitted that data of about 280,000 customers may have been stolen after a breach of its order management system.

In addition, the Optus network failed to operate emergency services during a "network outage" on September 18, 2025, resulting in three deaths, and causing millions of customers to consider leaving the network.

According to a June report by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), Dodo and iPrimus are the fourth largest broadband network (NBN) service providers in Australia, with a 9.2% market share and an estimated 804,000 customers./.
