On the afternoon of June 29, a shop selling incense, lamps, and offerings on Dong Khoi Street (Tan An Ward, Ninh Kieu District, Can Tho City) suddenly caught fire, burning down many items inside.
Upon receiving the news, dozens of officers and soldiers of the Fire Prevention, Fire Fighting and Rescue Police Department of Can Tho City Police along with about 5 specialized fire trucks quickly arrived at the scene to put out the fire.
Because the goods inside the store were incense and lamps that were very flammable, the authorities had to deploy many plans to quickly put out the fire, preventing it from spreading to neighboring houses.
People at the scene said that when the fire first broke out, the house was locked, and a man with a fire extinguisher broke the door and tried to put out the fire but was unsuccessful. Afterwards, everyone quickly reported the incident to the authorities.
According to Ms. Le Thi Le H., the shop owner, at around 4:30 p.m. she received news that her family's shop on Dong Khoi Street was on fire. The whole family rushed to see and saw that the authorities were actively putting out the fire, and the fire had stopped.
Ms. H. said the store that caught fire was her family's business. Every day, the store is open until about 12 noon, then closes and turns off the circuit breaker, but she doesn't understand why a fire broke out today.
The store that caught fire was a 3-story house, the first floor was burned down, goods and furniture were almost completely damaged. Fortunately, there were no casualties and the fire did not spread to neighboring houses.
Currently, Ms. H. has not determined the amount of property damaged because the store has a lot of goods and new goods are added every day.
The area where the fire occurred is a busy street located in the center of Can Tho city.
To effectively extinguish the fire and ensure public safety, authorities have put up cordons at both ends of Dong Khoi Street to temporarily prevent vehicles from entering or exiting.
By 6 p.m. the same day, the fire was basically under control. Firefighters continued to spray water to cool down the fire and prevent it from re-igniting./.
