Picking up a handbag on the street, a resident in Kien Giang opened it and found a lot of money inside, so he quickly went to the commune police station to hand it over and return it to the owner.
On the afternoon of May 7, Captain Ngo Truong An, Deputy Chief of Binh Minh Commune Police, Vinh Thuan District, Kien Giang Province, said that on the morning of the same day, Binh Minh Commune Police received a black handbag containing 18.2 million VND that a resident picked up and handed over to the Commune Police.
The man who picked up the bag is Mr. Nguyen Van Ton (67 years old), residing in group 14, Cai Nua hamlet, Binh Minh commune.
Mr. Ton said that at 10:00 a.m. on May 7, he was on his way from his house to Nga Nam market in Binh Minh commune to buy medicine when he discovered a black handbag lying on the road. At that time, Mr. Ton stopped his car and picked it up, and opened it to see that inside there was a lot of money in many different denominations, along with some personal documents. He immediately brought the handbag to the Binh Minh commune police station to hand it over.
After receiving the bag, Binh Minh Commune Police tried to contact the person who dropped it based on the personal documents. At around 11:00 a.m. the same day, Ms. Bui Thi Cam Quynh (37 years old), residing in Hiep Hoa Hamlet, Vinh Binh Bac Commune, Vinh Thuan District, who dropped the bag, came to Binh Minh Commune Police to receive all the money and personal documents.
Also according to Captain An, at the meeting to receive the lost money, Ms. Bui Thi Cam Quynh expressed her desire to thank Mr. Ton with some money, but he refused.
“We have reported the incident to the leaders of Vinh Thuan District Police to report to the District People's Committee. At the same time, the leaders of Vinh Thuan District Police said that next Monday they will report and ask for opinions from the leaders of Kien Giang Province Police to propose to commend Mr. Ton's actions of "good people, good deeds", Captain Ngo Truong An added.
It is known that Mr. Nguyen Van Ton is in a relatively difficult situation. His children are currently working far away in Binh Duong province and Ho Chi Minh City, leaving only him and his wife to make a living as hired laborers looking after farmed shrimp. Mr. Ton is also currently suffering from a serious illness.
