Cinema: A tool of soft power diplomacy
Speaking at the press conference, US Ambassador to Vietnam Marc Evans Knapper said: “The US Embassy’s participation in today’s press conference as well as the Vietnam Tourism and Cinema Promotion Program in the US aims to promote people-to-people exchanges in the strategic partnership between the US and Vietnam. There is no better way for us to promote tourism, promote cultural exchanges through the film industry, so that we can tell the stories of Vietnam to the world and the US.”
According to the Ambassador, films are also a powerful tool of soft power diplomacy and cultural exchange, bridging cultural differences and further strengthening connections between people and countries.
The film industry is not just about entertainment, it is also a powerful tool for telling stories about indigenous cultures, images of heritage and identity. And through the lens of the camera, filmmakers can capture the “spirit” of a nation to convey to the world.
“Through events such as the Vietnam Film and Tourism Promotion Program, we hope to encourage more American filmmakers to come to Vietnam and choose Vietnam as a filming location for their films, thereby contributing to discovering iconic locations that can become sought-after tourist destinations for international visitors, generating revenue for local businesses. The US diplomatic mission in Vietnam is always ready to support the expansion of cooperation in the field of film and other creative industries,” Ambassador Marc Evans Knapper affirmed./.
